Was over at my girlfriend's last night having a great time. She's got this cool place in the mountains. About 11;30, I trip and fall on the concrete deck, breaking a latrge wineglass and taking a 3" chunk outa my wrist. Bleeding all over the damn place, off to ER. Spent 4 1/2 hours there. 40+ stitches later w/ nerve and tendon damage. Have to have a hand specialist open it up and check it out. Great. Special DCon project capability just dropped... |

And all he had to do was mend a broken bone...Although I have very little trouble with it, I cant straighten my pinky finger out all the way.... Let us hear from you.. Derek |

40+ stitches !? That's a lot of stitches. It must look like Dr. Frankenstein sewed your hand back on. Heal fast. And you'll now have a "conversation starter" scar you can keep with you. Don't worry, scars add character |

Oh no! That's awful Bro! Listen get to that specialist as quick as you can! The longer you wait- the more work it is going to be to fix the tendon damage. In 2001 I cut through my left thumb at work with a knife (cutting produce at the time). I nearly cut it off- the knife stopped at the bone. Long story short I had cut clean through the tendons- as soon as the first doctor who examined me realized this (by telling me to move my thumb and it wasn't moving) they rushed me off to emergency plastic surgery- I was on an operating table within a few hours. The longer you wait, the damaged tendons "shrink" like an elastic band curling up. It will take more work for the surgeon to find the ends and re-attach them. Fortunately because of the quick response the surgery went off without a hitch. I had 12 weeks of recovery- 6 weeks with my thumb/wrist in a splint and another 6 with massage/strength therapy. It was hell to go through (you won't believe how many things you need both hands for) but today it is like it never happened. Best of success for a quick recovery Bro! I'm here if you need me! |

I can only echo what everyone else has said... I'm glad it wasn't any worse than it was, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Fingers crossed that you won't have any permanent damage, bro! |

thanks everyone. I just feel dumb ,clumsy, and that it could have been easliy avoided. I'm usually very sure footed, and just kinda angry at myself. Last thing I want to do is have it re-opened. Hurt like hell when the shots wore off after getting it cleaned and stitched together. I've a pretty high pain tolerance, and it was hurtin' damn bad. But, I'll call and get it looked at. My pinky stopped feeling numb a few hours ago, so at least that's a good sign. I know the Doc is doing the right thing, being cautious, etc. Just waaaay bums me out. If I end up having surgery, it'll take weeks to recover, that makes me cringe. My insurance should cover it, but my last insurance didn't cover hand therapy when I jacked up a finger. Scared, worried and nervous. And irritated with myself. Such a drag. |

Ouch. Happened to my daughter with a fishbowl. Make sure to complete the antibiotics. Deep infection is a big worry in addition to long term damage. Good luck and do see a specialist. |

I got great news from the hand doc!! NO SURGERY!! "Take off that splint, off with the elastic bandage, let it breathe, dry out and heal. Come back in a week and we'll take out the stitches". Wooooooooo-Hooooooooooo!!! To say I am soooooo jazzed is an understatement!!! I got a closer look at it, it appears I exaggerated the number of stitches. In the ER, it looked like at least 40...but I must have been "of clouded mind"... It was 20 stitches. Here's what it looks like-
