Post subject:  Great dialog in SciFi movies

I saw an interview of Carrie Fisher discussing the original SW script; saying "Who talks like this?"
With that said, every once in a while there is good dialog in SciFi. I don't mean great quotes like "We're on an express elevator to hell" or "I thought they smelled bad...on the outside"

SO I was watching Indy 3 to get ready for Indy 4, and I was reminded of one of my favorite scenes.

"The hell you will. He's got a two day head start on you which is more than he needs. He's got friends in every village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen different languages and knows every local custom. He'll blend in. Disappear! You'll never see him again. With any luck he has the Grail already."

It ranks up there with the interrogation room scene in the original Terminator with the psychologist and Reese.

There are lots of great scenes in scifi and tons of sound bytes and quotes.

Any other memorable writing sticks out to you marines?

I have a whole list of favourite lines from my favourite movies. Most of them are one liners like Arnie's "I'll be back".

But here are two monologues that stand out for me:

"I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. It'll fight if it has to, but it's vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won."

The Thing (1982)

"(You think you’re) A soldier?! No Goddammit, I’m a soldier! With the career goal of all soldiers: I want to stay alive in situations where it ain't all that easy to do! But you my friend, you’re a death lover! I know the species: 17 years old and some son of a bitch has put you in love with death! Somebody sold you on the idea that dying for a cause is oh so romantic; well that is the worst kind of all the kinds of BULLSHIT there is!! Dying is only one thing: bad! Don’t find that out! Please!"

Taps (Sorry this one wasn't sci-fi but a great quote none the less  )

Of course none of these compare to...

"Press the button my friend, send me back into time."

 :)

Favorite writing ever not quite sci-fi though....

Carlos: So, what, were they psychos, or...
Seth: Did they look like psychos? Is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a fuck how crazy they are!

Kate: Where are you taking us?
Richie: Mexico.
Kate: What's in Mexico?
Richie: Mexicans.

And one more:

Seth: So, what's the deal with you two, you a couple of fags?
Jacob: He's my son.
Seth: Yeah, how'd that happen? You don't look Japanese.
Jacob: Neither does he. He looks Chinese.
Seth: Oh, well pardon me all to hell.

Gotta love the dialouge in From Dusk til' Dawn.

Hehehe!

Also not sci-fi, but I have always loved the scene in 'Kingdom of Heaven' when the main character says:
"God will understand. If he does not, then he is not God, and we have nothing to fear."

As for sci-fi, I lke the simple: "I am your father!"

Bomb #20: Intriguing. I wish I had more time to discuss this matter.
Doolittle: Why don't you have more time?
Bomb #20: Because I must detonate in 75 seconds.

OMG can't believe I left out one of my favourite sci-fi exchanges.

"This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection. Withdraw, or be destroyed!"

"Negative, we have authority here. Do not force us to engage your ship."

"Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with the Minbari Fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else!"

"By Grabthar's Hammer, you shall be AVENGED!!!"

And my absolute favorite line from that same movie:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2kHvCQ2Q6Q

So many great lines spring to mind.

"I am monitored to respond to the name Robbie." and "I never use it myself. It promotes rust".

"Gort! Klaatu barada nikto."

"Get your stinking paws off me you damned dirty ape!!!"

"I've seen things you humans wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like...tears in rain."

I could go on like this all day--lol!

Cheers,

Dave
