Loved the trial version, but it won't run on vista. Ready to bite the bullet and buy the game. Which one for PC-Vista?

Halo one was for xp. HAlo 2 for vista, although if you system is powerfull enough there is a crack that lets you run halo2 on XP.

So, I should buy Halo one and play it on my old PC, then buy Halo 2 and play it on the new vista pc.

I have been playing the "Silent Cartographer" trial.
I prefer shooter games that don't walk you through a maze.
Flashpoint is another favorite of mine, go anywhere, get in any vehicle

R u sure there is Halo 2 for PC XP, Coz i think Halo 2 is made for vista only?

Yep, u r correct.
After u finish halo 1 in normal mode, giv legendary mode a try. Let me how long u take u finished halo 1 in legendary mode. U will get bored of normal once u finish it. The AI is juz too lamee in normal and easy mode. 8) 8)

Joe, Halo and Halo2 are both tremendous games. Excellent stories and excellent action. Not too much of the "run to point B, now go back to point A." Good, good fun. I'm always surprised that the games with uber-mad skillz in Multiplayer have never played the campaign. It's the best part of the game!

Fighting past the Hunters in the snow in the first game, figuring out how to defeat the tidal wave of Flood in the underground confines of the Library, Cartographer-ohhhhh man, tooo fun a level!

The whole first game is a blast. Yes it's improved by Halo2, which is improved by Halo3. But, consider this: Halo was Game of the Year, and held it's original sales price until Halo2 was released, virtually unheard of...

Pretty Sure. I've played it myself. Takes a little fiddling but it works.

Although saying that. It was really framey due to the ridiculous high system specs it needed. Almost unplayable at times but it can be done.

But to get back on topic.

Halo1:Combat evolved is for XP, Halo 2 is for Vista.

You might be cheaper buying a second hand xbox and pre-owned copies of Halo 1 and 2, Rather than buying two copies of the game for PC. And no config or running problems.

Course if it were me, Id get a 360, All three halo games, Guitar hero and Rock band. But then.. I did do that..:D

That you racking up your excuses in advance if we ever play multiplayer?

Pitiful..;)

Tell you what Fraz, I'll play you using a keyboard and mouse, and you can use your joypad... Let's see who wins... ;)

I can confirm the original Halo also runs on Vista with no problems.

Excuses?? I sucketh, sir, I sucketh like a motherhumper, and I certainly don't need to make up any excuses - I just own up to it!

I'm horrible with console controls...

Mouse vs. Joystick?
Old dog new tricks, I just can't seem to figure out a controler. Call of Duty 4 is collecting dust next to my Wii. I need a mouse for FPS's

Buy an XBox?
...to go along with gamecube, Wii and the PS2 that I bought just for Rockband? Oh yeah, the wife will love the idea

Cheaper ?
I am regularly throwing $5 bids on used Halo games, I will get on eventually.

Vista
I don't think Vista is the actual problem, it is the graphics driver which won't allow DirectDraw. I can't figure out how to adjust Hardware Acceleration in Vista.

Really? Cool, i wanna play in on XP but i dun tink i hv the time to fiddle wit it. N sad thing for me, i nver played the multiplayer. :(
But i enjoyed halo 1 and 2 due to the gameplay. I love killing the flood and convanents in halo 1 legendary mode(though i got killed like sooo many times) I found out that halo 2 legendary mode is even harder than the original halo 1.

Yeah. Your looking for "Halo 2 XP Loader"

Here's the instructions for it. NOt a huge amount of fiddling. Not like your editing hex files or anything..:)

Installation Instructions:
1) Extract the archive.
2) Insert the Halo 2 DVD
3) Run Startup.exe on the Halo 2 DVD using the included Loader.exe
Ie.: Loader.exe D:\Startup.exe
4) Install the game.
5) Install XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi and vcredist.msi from the \redists dir on the Halo 2 DVD.
6) Copy the following files into the directory you installed Halo 2:
dwmapi.dll, mf.dll, MFPlat.dll
7) Finished. To play the game, run halo2.exe using the included Loader.exe
Ie.: Loader.exe "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo 2\halo2.exe

More of a workaround than a crack. :)

Well I dusted off the wallet and bought Halo 1 at gamestop for $19.
My kind of shooter even though the whole game is "walking down one long corridor"

Except for the Flood; Not happy. I actually had nightmares where those blobby things were heads of dead marines. I hate games that enemy combatants keep magically appearing. I guess that is what the "Flood" is. I have played games however where there is an endless stream of Nazi soldiers in a bunker/building.

So, how do I defeat the Flood? CheatPlanet or let my 10 year old get me past it?
