The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

At last i have sat down and watched I am Legend , will not say what i think of it on here.... but watching it , it struck me here is another film in which New York is destroyed....why do the movie keep picking on New York? over the past 10 - 12 years almost every film in which a city is destoryed ..its New York, so far , in no order New York has been totaly or parts of it destoryed by the following:

Giant Lizard
Giant Ape
Giant Alien
Alien spaceships
Alien Tripods
Floods
Snow and ice
Plague
mauntants

not counting

bank robbers
terrorists

im sure there are a lot more but this list is off the top of my head... so what have the movie makers got against New York?... :?
Leave New York Alone!!!

Maybe because New York is so stereo-typical "America".

Remember too that like 80% of all Marvel Comics happen in or around NYC, or at least the state.

I think the movie makers want to destroy Spat.

Leave New York Alone!!!

You forgot giant rocks falling from the sky..(Armageddon)
The truth is it started when New York started making salsa (get a rope).. Then some guy raised the cost of his USCM armor causing the value of the US dollar to decrease.

How did this go from "Why NYC?" to "Let's pick on Spat?"

Not that I have a problem with this.

By the way- don't forget about two 10 megaton nuclear bombs dropped on NYC on purpose by order of the President in "Fail Safe".

Sometimes i think there are people out there that think America has only 4 major cities as all filme are set in L.A. San Fransico, New York , Washington.....

Forgot about Failsafe....which one the updated version or the one with Henry Fonda?

was trying to forget about Armageddon....

So how do New Yorkers feel about going to the cinema and keep seeing their city destoryed?

Well in some of those movies its not just New York that is destroyed......but its a populated and well known enough place that people immediately understand the scale of things.

But I do see your point, why NYC?
Everyone knows where it is.
Its iconic and immediately recognisable, but filming there is EXPENSIVE!!!

I know in Stephen Kings 'The Stand' they shot the NYC stuff in Pittsburgh.

NYC is probably hands down the most famous city in the world. Sad but probably true.

How is that Sad? I love New York, hell, I'll be up there for two days next week just because I want to.

I am not a fan of big cities. Don't like them. I don't like going to NYC, and I only live 45 minutes from it. I think there are so many nicer places in this country than NYC.

New Yorks former Mayor Ed Koch went on record bragging that when he was Mayor, not one movie came out that had New York blown up, but once he left and the new Mayor came in, New York got wrecked on screen every few months.

So Koch was keeping the bad things away.
