The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Today, we have wrapped up the shootings for a short film made by one of our members in the 501st Legion: Jelle Boucher. Jelle is currently making short films to get a foothold in the movie industry. He's hoping his newest brainchild "Reboot 57" will be even more succesful than his previous one: "The body" (2003).

"Reboot 57" stars the Rumanian actrice Maria Dinulescu and takes place in a futuristic post-nuclear-war world, where governments no longer exist and what's left of an army fights for survival against rebel factions. To recreate the post-nuclear-war world, Jelle called upon his comrades of the Belgian Costume Division (which houses the Belgian 501st Garrison as well). Chairman Stefan Cembolista and Event Coordinator Bert Dujardin (that's me) agreed to help him create the look of his futuristic rabble army and more of our members joined as extras for the actual shootings.

A view on some of the sets.

Miniatures were also used, such as the ruined city:

The army on the first day of shooting. I'm on the far left and Stefan is on the far right. As a sidenote: the little girl Elisabeth next to Stefan holds a bazooka I made for a fanfilm. The bazooka was about as long as she was and ultimately it was dubbed "Lizzie", the nickname Elisabeth uses herself.

This picture shows how we used all kinds of props and costumes to create our Reboot-army. Weapons range from WWI to modern day weapons and even movie props. They were all adapted to have one coherent look of an army that literally has to use anything they can get their hands on. Weapons for example included: MG-15, G-36 rifles and carbines, pump-action shotguns, M56 smartgun (but without the rig), DLT-19 repeating blaster, .30 machine gun, E-web blaster, Dragunov SVD sniper rifle and some own creations such as a flame-thrower and of course "Lizzie".

Shooting inserts on the last day:

Stefan says "Hi!".

Tom van Immerseel had the honour of firing "Lizzie". Even though I had not built the bazooka to work with pyrotechnics, it proved sturdy enough for them anyway, giving us this great action shot!

Stefan "Cage" Cembolista goes "The Rock". In fact, "Reboot 57" contains all kinds of references to movies and tv-series, not just through the use of movie prop replicas.

The Belgian Costume Division has already made an appearance on the FACTS 2006 convention, with part of its stand dedicated to "Reboot 57". It displayed actual movie costumes and props and already drew the interest of a few important people from the Belgian movie industry. The German and UK Colonial Marines who were there will remember this trench-corner.

Production is planned to end somewhere around August-September. The film is already scheduled to be projected as a warm-up before a big blockbuster in Italian and Rumanian movie theaters.

There's a lot more pictures in our gallery here.

Cool pix! What language (expect harsh language) is used for the movie? Looking forward to the finished film. Thanks for sharing Broskopf.

English. And I don't think there will be a lot of harsh language.

Yes, I made a topic about this short film before, when we had started with principal photography in August last year, but I did a search and couldn't retrieve it anymore. So I started a new one.

It's going to take some months to finish the film in its entirety and as of yet, I have no idea how people could be able to see it. On festivals, yes, bu I don't know if Jelle is going to participate in much festivals outside of Europe. There should be a website coming up, once the film nears completion. I'll chime in once I know more, but that'll take a while.

There's also a trailer I put up on my webspace for as long as the official site isn't ready yet. It's a 9 Meg DivX file.

Wow, nice production design for a short. The sets look convincing. I used to set desigh on films and I know how much work goes into making sets when you have no or little money, "this ain't Hollywood, pal!"
Look forward to seeing it. Will there be a screening at FACTS, Broskofp?

A

PS, how's your Alien costume comming along? Ready fro FACTS?

Screening at FACTS: maybe. Jelle will make a new stand at FACTS this year, but on his own because BCD itself will need all its space for its own projects.

Alien: I am knee-deep in work for Celebration Europe, so the alien is on hold until a find a gap of free time. Should be ready if all goes well.

Broskopf, kudos!

Have to agree with Andrew, great set design...and the production values look great for a low-budget short.

A friend of mine runs an annual UK film festival, if Jelle is looking to show the film at UK venues.

I love the Willys Jeep with the 1/4 ton trailer.

@ armourer: Jelle is indeed interested to take up the offer of going to festivals in the UK. If you can supply me with an e-mail address, I'll pass it on to him.

Digging up this old topic for some more progress news.

The short film is being readied to visit film festivals this year and as such we'll most likely be an important part of this. Today, I've reconstructed the sniper-outfit I wore during pick-ups. Along with two costumes of main characters and one costume of a ghetto child, this one may tour along for promotion.
