The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

OK, I know I had to add to this thread. I've been around. Done so much army stuff, I can't remember it all. OK, here's the highlites

- Sept 1976 Joined the army cadets (PPCLI) at 16 1/2 years old
- Jan 1977 Quit the cadets to join the army reserve (Canadian Scottish Regiment) cause you get paid
- June 1981 Joined the regular army. Started as a tanker (Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)
- Sept 1986 Changed trades to Weapons Tech (Land)
- Feb 2005 Got promoted to RSM ....Retired Service Member :)

Served in Germany 1982-85 as a Leopard C1 tank gunner & armored recce. Took my airborne course in 1992 at the age of 32 (Apocalypse Now flashback "32. Why in the f*#k would he do that"). Served for 3 years in the Canadian Airborne Regiment including Somalia. Got my Canadian, US (jumped in Ft Drum), German (jumped on a frozen lake in Norway with the Fallschirmjager) and my Brit wings (jumped into DZ November, Normandy June 5 1994 day before the 50th anniversary of D-Day. Drank lots of beer then). Also did 6 wonderful months in Cyprus on UN "Peace Keeping". I was a big time shooter being a "gun plumber". Got 5 "gongs" or medals. Drank lots of beer, got in lot of scaps...some lost, some won. Worked directly with US, Brit, German, Norgie, Dutch, French, Italian, Aussie & Kiwi's. Had lots of fun. I would do it all over again except keep my big mouth shut at the correct times. Anyway, that's my service in a nut shell. Damm I miss it!

Mike

Does a pseudo military organization count?

I was in the Canadian Air Cadets from 1983 to 1989 (13 to 19 yrs old). Some of my favourite memories of my teenage life were there. Got a glider pilot license out of the deal. Spent an additional year as a civilian instructor (and got called "Sir"- which was weird  ).

Everyone from my friends, teachers, and fellow cadets figured I would join the Canadian Forces after I graduated (either the Army or Air Force), but in 1990 I injured my back to the point I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes at a time. I believed I would never pass a physical and that my military days were over before they began (probably much to the relief of my Parents).

My life took a decisively different direction. Guess I've always been a grunt wannabe. I'd like to think I would have made a good soldier though.

French Navy, ASW Patrol Aircraft Squadron 21F, based in Nimes.
Compulsory service, abridged. October 1995 - December 1995.

So... I have a few problems with authority, and since it was the last year of compulsory service in France they didn't think it was worth bothering breaking me, or feeding me while I lounged in the brig...

I have a lot of admiration for most military people. It doesn't necessarily extend to the Military as an organisation, and I am fully aware that I really don't belong there...
How ironic that I like uniforms and soldier stuff so much.

It's beginning to look like we could form a airborne wing of the USCM.

I was just thinking that with all these pulse rifles floating around it would be cool as hell to have one that fired Simunition's. I remember doing room clearing excercise's and the plt.sgt. telling us to not fire our weapon any closer than 4ft.
since the engineers were playing the op.4 boys we walked right up on them point blank and lit them up. I remember that causing a little ruckus and the engineers wouldn't play with us rangers anymore.

Civil Air Patrol 1985-87.
1988 Denied being able to join the active duty services due to medical disqualification. :(

But like Kev, I think I'd have made a decent airman (would have joined the Air Force).

Heh, the pull up a sandbag and swing a lamp thread!

British Army 87-96
Challenger MBT crew
Specialised in signals, 7th Armd Bde Armd Recce ,OPFOR to name but a few. Got me gongs, ran up some ridiculous mess bills getting blind drunk on a regular basis, worked hard, played hard, had some right laughs along the way and had a blast doing it. Great times.

Airborne Mike, were you at Ledra Palace in Sector 2 by any chance or out on the line?

And I agree I'd do it all again and also keep my trap shut at various times lol. The old saying ' you can take the man out of the army but you'll never take the army out of the man is spot on I think.
