Ah... to be a multi-gazillionare and not care how I spent my money... I would have snapped this up: Dune Buggy from MegaForce MegaForce... It's 80s... it's total camp/shlock... But the "Mega Destroyer" dune buggys were supercool (even the silly laser gun turret)! I soooooo wanted one as a twelve year old when I first saw them! That and the motorcycles too!! It's funny- the auction description says that "only two dune buggys survived the movie production". I can remember watching a tv show back in the early 80s similar to "Battle of the Network Stars" (in which popular tv personalities would compete in team based contests: tug of war etc). Anyway- one star (can't remember who it was) wanted to have a "car chase" event using the dune buggys from MegaForce. It was him (dressed in the same tan/gold spandex jumpsuit from the film) versus a bad guy dressed in black. The two started with a staged fight (complete with dropkicks and mock punches) and then chased each other around in what must have been those two surviving Mega Destroyer buggys! Little snippet of history. Really wish I could have bid on that buggy. Alas... I must settle for these for the time being:
Probably just as rare as the real deal- the Mattel/Matchbox vehicles. Found these at a flea market around '83 or '84. |

Back in the 90s we had a museum close to where I lived called "The Fantastic Museum." This place totally rocked. It had that car, and the motorcycle, from MegaForce, it had once of Elvis' Pink Cadallacs, Elizabeth Taylor's changing trailer from "Cleopatra," it had the worlds largest button collection, and all kinds of various movie props. Never did I ever think to take a camera and fire off some snap shots of the cool things this place had....... |

Megaforce! Man I loved that movie as a kid. Haven't seen it in ages but I'd be proud to drive around anywhere in that thing. Proud as any nostalgic uber nerd out there! I mean how can you beat super spy action hero Barry Bostwick? Cmon! |

I put a set of rocket launchers on my BMX bike after seeing that movie. They even worked- a couple of times. |

The true purpose of cheesy action flicks...to get kids to attach explosives to stuff! |

Yepper! Here a nice little trip to Campland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqCb_9ubQ1U Nothing like having a bike that sounds like the '66 Batmobile! The "drop" sequence (before the first battle) was pretty cool actually (all the vehicles going out the backs of two or three C-130s). And I did like the "chameleon" paint that would change from fancy colours to black at night. OK I have to pull out the old vhs tape now (which was taped off a tv broadcast many moons ago! |

Oh. My. God. You're gonna burn in the special hell for that one Kev. Okay, I admit when I was a kid, Megaforce was pretty sweet. Anyone else notice in the initial "getting attacked by expoding beach balls" scene, that the biker on the right almost wiped out taking "wheelie boy" with him. Too funny. Now, where's the George Lucas-ized deluxe special edition with all reworked FX sequences. Russ |

You know what? When it becomes available on dvd- I'll buy it! Especially if it has commentary by director whathisname and Barry Boswick (if he can manage to stay awake for his own film Really MegaForce (the fictional military unit) is a lot like... US! Think about it... A pseudo military organization made up of International members... who have no rank structure... like toys for big boys... have a few attention whores ( |
