Stupid politicians. Just because it's found in tap water most everywhere, they want to ban it. Don't they know farmers use the stuff to grow crops?

Russ,
what happens when the two main components break down? There are huge potential dangers. Would you drink mercury just because it is found in tap water, how about lead? Your argument does not hold water.

You both have points. Used responsibly, and with caution it can provide great benefits, but if not respected or used with malice- it can kill.

Hmmm... I guess this is like the arguement about aspartame- a small amount is broken down by the digestive system into methanol which your body converts into formaldehyde.

Our governments tell us that that the amount is too small to cause us any damage.

However with the food industry flooded with several diet, low calorie products containing aspartame- how do we know we are not consuming dangerous levels?

I didn't actually read the link... until just now. Stupid me. :(

I was being serious. Now I feel like an ass.

Serves me right. If anyone needs me I'll be standing in the corner facing away from the room.

Don't feel too bad, DHMO really does have some serious risks. If you have ever been burned by the gaseous form, you know how painfull it is.

# Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
# Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
# Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
# DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
# Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
# Contributes to soil erosion.
# Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
# Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.

There are a few exceptions on this board where I have been serious.

You forgot to mention that sudden exposure to solid DHMO causes severe blunt trauma.

As for me- I'm being sarcastic... or am I?

Exposure to refrigerated DHMO will cause male shrinkage.

Avoid this noxious substance at all costs, men!

I know it's all letterheaded for NZ, but are you chaps sure this isn't from the UK?

It's sad that something that tasts so good can be so hazardous.
I've mostly switched to drinking products with Splenda in
them instead of Aspertame. Hard to find good tasting soda pop
with splenda though.

No more Diet Mt. Dew for me... :(

Why not just drink non-diet sodas?
Given the choice I always steer clear of anything with the phrase 'no added sugar' on it.. You just know it's filled with chemicals to replace the sugar.

Because I have a slow metabolism (believe it or not) and am on a diet.

0 calorie diet soft drink versus 200 calorie non-diet. You do the math.

Might as well say, Occuring naturally or Man-made chemicals. :)

One word: Diabetes. :)

Good enough reason to stay away from excessive sugar sodas.
