The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I bought this maybe 19 or 20 years ago. I'm pretty sure it's a tank crew/commander helmet (although it could be a helecopter crew helmet for all I know). Not sure of the era... 60s or 70s maybe?

Gotta be a tanky's - no device for visor attachment. NATO, probably... other than that, not sure. I'm going for US / Israeli judging by the leather forhead band.

Could be wrong. Probably am. ;)

Thanks Eagle.

I feel like a total idiot (shut up Spat  ).

After 20 years I finally noticed a tag on the rear of the neckband . It reads:

HELMET, COMBAT VEHICLE CREWMAN
SIZE LARGE
Sierra ENGINEERING CO.
DEC 16, 1966 CONTRACT NO. DSA- 100-67-C-1822

So I guess it's U.S. made?

(Where's that "slaps forehead" emoticon?  )

Take it from ol' Ironsides... this is definitely a zipper-head helmet.

I thought zipper head refered to tank operators as they were prone to needing stitches from bangin there heads.

Yeah Kevin, you definitely were a zoomie if you don't know what a zipperhead is.

Give that Marine some cornbread!
Zipperheads are what Canadian troops nickname our soldiers from the Armoured Corps or "tankers". Generally anyone who's trade is Armoured Crewman. They wear black berets (hot in the summer). Correct Dom...yah Zipperhead?

Actually, it was first coine in Korea... but not that kind of zipperhead.

You know, it never occured to me that this was a Canadian specific terminology for a tanker.

Black beret hot in the summer? Not when you're as cool as me, pal.

The helmet does kinda look like the one for the tank drivers in the USCM Tech Manual. Looks like you found another impression to do there Kevin!

Well... It's really not that cool (looking) to wear. Looks kinda like I'm wearing a big green egg on my head.

I do need to find the other half of the boommike for it though. It never came with it when I bought it- so I'd have to score it off ebay. :)

Kev, I have a replacement boom mike wire arm for you. OEM for the SPH4 helmets. Send me an e-mail and its yours.

I had to buy a bunch of them to replace the nasty one on my helmet, so I have spares. :)
