The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I installed Call of Duty 4 yesterday and I'm blown away by every aspect of it. It's simply stunning. :D

You don't look like the Grumpy type, Dom! :)

I was gonna mention the AvP games, but thought it would be easier to move the thread. ;)

I rememeber pong......wow it doesn't seem that long ago.

Just got the wife an XBOX360, (which I've tested rigurously I might add) and the graphics simply floor me.
Soon it will be virtual reality in our own homes....crazy!

Think how it will be in 20-30 years time???

To think that just twenty years ago I was playing this:

Dungeon Master on my Atari ST.

and I'm now playing this:

Mass Effect on my Xbox 360. 8)

Ah Mass Effect. A game I so want, but will not buy a 360.

BTW, on the G4 X-play Best of 2007 show they mentioned having a Space Marine Christmas, where you sing songs to Saint Paxton.

In 20-30 years we'll all be dead.

The machines will rise from the nuclear fire and rule until 2029.

But just to stay in this thread...

Boy the guy on the right really sucks at Pong!

And it's a funny coincedence that I bought DooM (the movie with The Rock) this week. There is an extras documentary on how DooM changed the gaming industry in 1990 with it's FPS style of play.

I'm holding on for Sims virtual reality with a Holodeck style interface.

Until then I'll play Storm The House or Xeno Tactic.

Mass Effect truly is the closest to the "Interactive Cinema" that I've ever played. It makes the old Wing Commander games look like... well... Pong. :)

Touche! I do believe you're right there!

One kid freaks out while the other laughs his ass off sending the ball through uncontested.

My introduction to home gaming was with this dinosaur:

Image

A Commodore VIC20 (complete with cassette tape drive). Must have gotten it in 82 or 83? It's still at my Parent's house boxed up. Played fantastic games like this:

Image

Eventually (around 1991) I upgraded to a Sega Genesis system...

$299.

Bought the 32X upgrade for better graphics (as in 32 bit)

Another $299.

And a special "Arcade Console" controller...

$199

Games were what... $80 each back then? I had 5 or 6 games- DooM, Star Wars X-Wing, The Tick and a couple of others.

So in 1998 after having bought my first PC with my soon to be wife, I decided to sell the Genesis system at one of those Cash Coverters pawnshops. You wanna know what I got for the system, 32X upgrade, controller, and 5 games?

20

lousy

dollars.

I was feeling nostalgic today and installed my old MS-DOS DooM II disc on my PC!

Yes, we certainly come a long way. We've gone from one guy doing a whole game to one guy being resonsible for say all the rocks and trees.

The future is bright (and I get to see it before all of you  )

Well, those of us with an Xbox 360 can play a recent game (Space Giraffe) from Llamasoft (Jeff Minter), who's been making games since before the VIC20 and has only recently expanded his team with one more person:

This post could be seen as a bit of a plug as he's a friend of mine. 8)

Been playing Call of Duty 4- Outstanding, just outstanding. Haven't tried Mass Effect yet, heard it's awesome.

And there's still Gears of War and of course, Halo 1-3

Mass Effect is an Xbox 360 exlusive right now, but there's a pretty good change that it will come out for PC in about a year. Bioware did the same thing With Knights of The Old Republic 1 & 2 aswell as Jade Empire.

I got CoD4 for the PS3 for Christmas, and it's amazing to look at. I haven't played it much myself, as I'm saving it for when I get a 40" HD TV in a couple of weeks. I've had some split screen two-player games on it, and watched my Brother play it a bit. It looks real

As for the retro gaming, I'm a big Retro Gaming fan. I play old games all the time and I'm in a Retro Gaming League, where we play a game each week and post our scores towards points in the league. We played Manic Miner (Spectrum) last week, and at the moment it's Leander (Amiga), and a special Christmas bonus game of The Snowman (Spectrum). It's mainly Arcade games on MAME, but we've had a few of the home computers selected recently.

My computer history:

Atari VCS (later called the "2600")
Vic-20
C64
Amiga 500
Amiga 1200
Playstation
PC
PS2
PS3

I used to use CBM PETs at school. They were great! We also had BBCs, but we mostly used the PETs. Mostly.

I have a C64 and Amiga 1200 next to me on my desk, set up for immediate action :D

Anyone interested in this stuff might be interested in Retro Gamer magazine.

The one I'm in is similar to the Yak Yak one. I think we are using the same scoring formula, and some of our members are in that one too (like "merman", who has given me a credit in his C64 book, due out soon).

I've ordered that too. 8)

On a gaming/Alien related note, those of us with Xbox 360s can now download an AvP-R theme and gamerpics for free, along with a short trailer for the film. :)
