The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I know we haven't spoken before, but I've seen your photos before and knew you were a woman :)

I say keep the collar and tell them to go "F***" themselves. I know I would be proud to wear the pink collar to show I am a woman. It is your costume, do what you want

And why can't there be female xenomorphs?? Seems illogical to me for them all to be males.

I enjoy reading your blog, keep it up, Can't wait to see what adventures you and Abi go on next

Have a nicsssssssssssse day! <3

Geez people sure have a lot of free time say stupid stuff. Its a costume and its a collar. Its like a group of Stormtroopers of the 501st waving as passerby at a convention in San Francisco being called "Nazi" by a few stupid A-holes driving by.

I say stay by your guns. If stupid people continue to saying stupid things, you must be doing something right!

An Old Texas Grandmother said to me once, "its all mind over matter... If you don't mind, it don't matter..."

I agree with Moosh. To hell with those who don't care to look close enough. They're only trying to make themselves feel better because they can't handle their own lives.

And I have always said since the second movie that the alien in the original has to be female, if they do indeed have a hive system, then like a bee or ant, any new 'queens' in the hive are driven off or killed, but if there isn't any queens already established then the first one 'born' would at some point metamorphosise into a queen., You just haven't reached that final stage yet, but the collar is symbolic of the start:). And the rest of the 'male' aliens would be genderless, as they aren't needed for procreation..

And heck, isn't it about having fun? I think, as does my partner, that an alien in a collar is cooooool:)

I fully support your collar! There needs to be a representation of females in fandom. That being said, having seen pics of you, I have no idea how someone could mistake you for a man. My first thought when I saw you, was that you look like a badass chick! Keep rocking the collar and screw anyone who says otherwise!

I think you have your answer. Keep the collar, stand for how you feel, and rock the costume. Screw the rest!

Keep the collar, and fuck the haters, Rex.
Those that matter don't care, and those that care don't matter.

I was arguing the toss about Abe's collar on the Gearbox forums, but at the end of the day, is it REALLY important?
Gearbox like the collars, every single cast member and crew member from the films that we have met like the collars, we like the collars...
Keep the collars.

Also, if you had massive boobs, I think Abi would look pretty wrong, no?

I’ve been considering how to reply to this for a bit.

As someone who has been on the receiving end of ridicule and the butt of jokes (some of them were in fact “gay” jokes) for years during the teenage (and earlier) time of my life, I can completely relate to this. Jokes about gender or sexuality can hurt deeply.

Here is the deal- It is easy to be supportive by repeatedly telling you Rex to tell the haters to go eff themselves.

I support this too.

The problem is that the haters are not going to go away. As long as you continue to wear the collar, the negative comments will continue.

In my situation it was about a weight problem I had. I was the fat kid. So my solution was to one day just dig down and lose the weight with an “I’ll show those effers!” attitude. I lost the weight, and the comments disappeared.

However your situation is nearly the opposite because you “want” to continue to wear the collar. So unfortunately the reality is that the comments are probably not going to go away because there will “always” be some jackhole, who thinks he’s a funny guy, around to make a stupid remark.

And the fact is that the comments pile up. They don’t “go away” with time or roll off your back as easily as they used to. In fact it becomes harder and harder to keep “doing what you like.” You are left with a dilemma of “giving in to the haters” and removing the collar, or continuing to wear it and put up with the comments... however it has become less and less about the “fun” of wearing the collar, and more about “not wanting to give in.” Either case is “no longer fun.”

“We” will be there to support you as much as possible. And while defending you against the haters when necessary might be honourable, it isn’t going to prevent the comments from being made in the first place. No matter how many times one of us is there to put the haters in their place, one more jerk will come along and make a stupid remark.

And although it might sound like it, I’m not suggesting you stop wearing your collar. What I am saying is that you will have to develop a thicker skin, because this is an uphill battle you are facing.

All I can say is that we are here to support you and to listen you when you need us. I normally would end something like this by saying “Stay Strong Marine!”... but that doesn’t work for obvious reasons.

So I’ll say...

SSHSHHHHHHHhhhsssssSSSSSSSSsssSSSs!

Kevin

People will always make comments. As soon as you shut them up, new people will make the same comments. I work in a competitive industry, with a bunch of ex military type A personalities. I also wear a Hello Kitty button religiously. I take a ration of crap on a daily basis. I'd love to tell you that eventually the comments won't bother you. But if you figure out how, you're one step ahead of me. If you want to wear a pink collar then wear it. Try to accept that 90 percent won't bother you about it, and then the 10 percent that do are just really loud.

Charlie

You probably know what I'm gonna say, and there isn't much that hasn't been said already ... but I'll ramble on anyway:

You wear the collar because you want to. You wear the costume for YOU too. The comments apparently aren't all that sophisticated and you need to look carefully at the people making the comments; these people really shouldn't matter to you. I don't think any verbal "hassle" that Abe gets has ever bothered me - except maybe the small kids that like to spend 2+ hours circling me at an event shouting "you're a man in a suit" 400 times ... But "gay"?

I get the "gay" thing quite often (including on the few corporate gigs where Abe has been without collar...) - I think they jump on that because of the fact that a Xeno moves in a very specific, almost theatrical/camp way when in character. It might be a side-effect of my medically-ruined libido, but I've never managed to find being called "gay" insulting.

It burns my heart that don't have the opportunities to let Abe out in the big-bad-world as often as you take Abi out - but, seeing an Alien (or any other "hard costume") outside of geek conventions etc pushes people outside of their comfort-zone. This delights most people but a large minority can only respond negatively. The reason why they say these things is that they are put off-guard by your presence (and awesomeness), are inherently negative people and can't think up anything else to say.

The other thing that I would say is that a load of people seem to no idea if I'm a guy or a woman when I am Abe. But then, some people are so dumb that they conclude that Abe is wholly animatronic ...

Wow, I didn't expect such a great response and feedback from you all :') this has made me feel so much better about the whole ordeal lol. Wish i could quote you all and reply individually .__. but i might get kicked in the tail for a massive response haha!
Basically, yes you're all right, i DO need to get a thicker skin and just fuck the hater's, i do it for me and for the group and the little remarks of people who don't understand shouldn't matter, It's strange, I can go out and about town with my hawk up and covered in patches and not give a flying fuck but this bother's me?.... A bit reverse i think lol.
Sometime's I think because i get restless between drop's about seeing you all and being able to come to them, I forget how i feel and how much like a family you all are to me, and that the collar is a personal reminder to me about the great time's and experiences i have with you all fantastic people. Hopefully this might get sorted at Wales later in the year, for those of you going, be careful, your going to get Abi cuddle love's :p!
