The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

And I thought I was the only one who still likes a good pirate movie. ;)

edition.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Movies/07/09/box.office.ap/

Although I was unable to contribute to its grand opening weekend sales due to a prior engagement, I'm grabbing my cursed gold Aztec coin necklace and planning to set sail Wednesday night for some swashbuckling high-sea adventures.

Savvy?

That's the sweet sound of jealousy coming from the LWHP* or the CAJD** organizations my friend. ;)

I say spend a few bucks and form your own opinion... I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Oh, and by the way... the rum is gone because it is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into scoundrels... that's why. ;)

I saw it on saturday. It's darker in tone and the story seems a whole lot less kid friendly than the first film, but I enjoyed it as a munch popcorn and watch expensive set pieces roll around kind of film.

The darker aspects I enjoyed as I dig that kind of stuff. It's very expensive looking, I'll tell you that.

Captain Jack is less charming and funny and he doesn't always land on his feet in this one, and too much of the focus is on Davey Jones' crew for me, and I thought it was a wee bit LONG.

All in all, it was pretty fun, and had some very cool stuff in there.

But be warned if you have little kids the Davey Jones stuff might scare them, and early in the film a bird plucks an eye out of it's socket. I actually heard many of the kids laugh though, but you could feel the parental tension building up.

I wouldn't say it sucked, I thought it was pretty good.

Did anyone try using one of the POTC free passes? They came packaged in some DVD releases recently such as Armageddon and Blackbeard's Ghost.

We tried to use ours Friday night and the ticket girl claimed that the studio wasn't letting them be redeemed untill after July 21st, which sounds like total and complete BS to me. Especially since the passes expire on the 23rd of July, making them useable for a whole 2 days. I've used the free passes packed in a DVD for other films (AvP and T3 come to mind...) with no problems whatsoever.

Anyone with any connection to the studio? I really want to find out if it's fact or fiction.

Well sucks or not; you can't argue with $132 million

I've heard nothing but good things, but financies are holding me back. Darn Dallas convention.
I'll make it $132,000,017.00 shortly don't you worry.

I also think its doing so well because its fresh. not a remake and not a story thats already been told. Its fresh, new and well it has a hot chick and (so the women say) hot guys in it. What more can you ask for? (Marines and Bugs excluded)

I'm guessing that includes taking his wife as well.

But up here in my hometown, the super-duper-multi-plexing-big-biggy-screen theater charges $12 for an adult ticket!

No wonder movies make a snot-load of money these days. ;)

$7 Even at our local theater, chairs hurt like hell after an entire movie but its cheaper than the theater with the fancy leather stadium recliner seating.

I think we paid about $40 that night because of getting hosed on the adult tickets.

2 kids tickets, 2 adult tickets, 1 small popcorn, 1 bottle water, 2 icees, one candy and one medium popcorn.

My wallet is still whimpering from the pain.

Saw it tonight.
Enjoyed it.
Waited til the credits finished.
Laughed.
Went home.

I agree, it was a bit too long - If each setpiece had been cut down a touch, it'd have been the perfect length.

Come on you guys... what's wrong with you?

You ALWAYS stay for the credits. That's the sign of a true movie fan -- not just a movie goer. Besides, don't you want to see who some of the actors/actresses were who played some of the lesser roles, and watch for people and F/X companies that you know so that you can acknowledge their work?

Seriously... if you dislike a movie then I can understand not wanting to stay for the credits. However if you really did enjoy it, wouldn't you naturally feel like sitting there for a few minutes to let it soak in while enjoying the final soundtrack?

You credit-skippers crack me up. You are obviously the same people who missed out on the monkey snatching the cursed coin at the end of "Curse of the Black Pearl" and didn't realize it until you bought the DVD and 'accidentally' let the credits run to the end. :P
