If this doesn't belong here, please move it to the OT forum. I have a T-800 arm and a tube for it, but I need to make a base for the tube. I've looked through T2, the extras, and the "Making of" book by Don Shay to get reference pics. I've compared what I have found with the bases that come with other models, and there seems to be quite a difference. Does anyone have any "behind the scenes" reference pics of the actual screen used base? Has it been shown on display in an exhibition that someone might have a good picture of? Here are the best pics I have found so far: Tube Base Pictures This leads me to the conclusion that the base looks like this: My Drawing I've found someone to make the base out of wood (a friend who is a good carpenter), so I'd like to give him a pic to work from, probably next week. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Paul. The Colony - My collection and current prop projects. |

Hi Paul, Sorry. I don't have any reference pics outside of the ones that you already have linked. Your drawing looks good but at a glance, the overall dimensions might be out of proportion. Currently, I am searching through my things for some old drawings that I've done for this piece. If memory serves me correctly, there are measurements listed in them. They are around here somewhere. Will your carpenter friend be turning this piece out of wood? Tom |

Hi Tom, Measurements would be fantastic if you can find them! In-fact any drawing will help, as it would be good to see someone else's take on how it looks. My friend will indeed be turning it out of wood. Pine to be exact. I'll then undercoat it, and spray it silver. Paul. The Colony - My collection and current prop projects. |

So far, I've not been able to find the drawing that I was thinking of. Sorry, Paul. Will keep looking for it. Just wanted to let you know that I've not forgotten you. Please keep us posted on how yours develops. Tom |

It's amazing that there aren't any good pics of it out there. When I first started looking, I was expecting it to be quite easy to find close-ups. Anyway, thanks for looking. Once things start happening, I'll post some pics. Paul. The Colony - My collection and current prop projects. |

Well, I've just done a proper pic with dimensions: Version 1 pic I've tweaked it a bit, to make the bottom part wider, and the whole thing slightly taller. I've decided that there are probably only two grooves on the top section, but it's very hard to make them out from the film. Paul. Hi Paul, nice drawing. Judging from the screenshots you posted I'd say the step where the diameter changes from 172 to 186 mm has a 30degree champer. Also the top section seems only to have one groove with an O-ring in it. I don't really see the two fat black lines - if there's anything there I'd say that are marks from the lathing process. Thanks for the comments. I had noticed the angle, then managed to forget about it ![]() New version: Version 2 Pic Paul. Cool! So two more things that I just noticed: It seems like the lower edge of the groove for the O-ring is at the center of the upper cylinder piece. When comparing the overall height with parts of the arm I'd also say that the overall height should be 30mm higher (140mm in total) while keeping the vertical proportions like they are. At least that's what it looks like in the screencaps from the movie - the upper row of your pictures looks more like your current design. Cheers, Stefan PS: And don't forget the recessed area (about 15-20mm deep) at the top. New version. I managed to get it to almost 130mm tall, but I was worried about the thickness of the gap near the top getting too fat, so I stopped there. Yep, I think that's it! I understand your worries about the groove getting to wide. Maybe 10:6 of the heights will look more convincing than the 8:8 ratio you have now. Cheers, Stefan |
