The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hello my fellow marines,

Thought you might like to see this: the past four days, I was on the set of a short film as one of the propmasters and also as an extra. The film takes place in a fictional future, where a large scale war has virtually flattened the Western world as we know it and has left the survivors living in shelters, scrounging food, clothes, everything... governments no longer function and what's left of the world's armies tries to hang in there on their own, opposed by rebel forces who try to build power by conquering and controlling territory. A lot of people are falling victim to diseases as well.

The director thought along the lines of the future world in the Terminator-movies, but without the robots.

I'll leave it up to you guys to check into the weapons, which ones were used, where inspiration for the costumes came from etc etc. Take note that the director came to our club, asking for extras and assistance with his costumes and props, to get the look he wanted for his short; no longer than one and a half weeks before the first shooting day.
The film is to be released in black & white.

I'll put up some teaser pics first:

I dig the photos! Nice smart gun. :)

Where was this shot? The sets and wardrobe look great. I've used the spray paint trick on everything. Instant dinge. Ask Charlie, he and I spray painted a good portion of the last set I worked on.

My next question would be, why black and white? The work done on those costumes would look great with SPR style high contrast over saturation. Plus, it was shot in HD (I saw the Canon camera on the pics page) and color looks so damn good in HD!!!

:D

Thanks for sharing the pics, looks like a good time was had by all. I haven't shot anything in months, this really makes me miss it!!!!!

Looks interesting! Can't wait to see the final work.

And Noeland, when are we going to see your project? Or part one of it?

The movie is spoken in English. So subtitles won't be needed. The director was aiming for the international short film market anyway.

Well, guess what... it's the Relics one. I bought it way back, but haven't found the time yet to add detail and make other slight improvements. So, it's pretty much as I bought it, just a lot dirtier.

Interior shots were done in the Academy of Arts in Dendermonde (Belgium). The exterior shots were made along a forest access road, which hardly gets used, also in Dendermonde.
We didn't just use spray paint. First, we covered the clothes and props with spray-glue, then poured flour, plaster and cement on them. For clothes and clothing accesories, we just used black spray paint to add some darker spots.

Director's choice. You'd have to ask him. :)

Thanks for the answers! And for sharing the pics. I love this kind of material and I hope we can see the film completed. Looking forward to it.

I wanted to add that I think THIS GUY:

Looks a helluva lot like THIS GUY:

Tom Berenger of coarse. I actually had to do a double take. Atleast I think he looks like him in that B&W photo. :)

And if you're referring to the blade runner stuff, sooner than later. I'm keeping the irons in the fire and trying to complete it. Thanks for asking! :)

Well, that guy is Stefan Cembolista, our club's chairman. Definately not Tom Berenger.
