The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

He's a computer science major named Simon, blind since birth, and one of the most brillent gents I've had the good fortune to meet. He utilizes an application called JAWZ that allows him to 'hear' what most of us see on the monitors.

It has been a very awe inspiring friendship to be sure and his seeing eye dog Mayah is phenomenal. Just had to share that.

I've seen that program.
It's a very interesting piece of kit!

A while back I was working on a project (can't say too much I'm afraid) and as part of the research I ran across it. Fascinating, the way you can convey "visual" information audiably.
I also found a program that does the same thing with a webcam image, allowing a blind person to "see" their surroundings.

Clever stuff. Although it has a bit of a learning curve.
Of course we tried using it to navigate our way around the office blindfolded. It takes some practice but it does give an idea of what it must be like to use for real.
