Post subject:  Adding pics to signature

Can anyone advise me how to add a pic to my 'signature'? I've gone into the 'edit signature' box and there is a button marked 'Img', which if I hover the mouse over it, says 'insert image'. If I click this button, the words img/img appears in brackets where the cursor is in the signature text, but nothing else happens, and there doesn't seem to be any on-screen instructions as to how to actually insert an image. Can anyone help please?

The “Img” button allows you to make an external reference (link) to an external hosted image e.g. your ribbons.
If this would be your link to your ribbons (taking mine as example):
http://www.pbase.com/image/158555775/small.jpg
you would simply highlight with the cursor your link and press the “Img” button.
You can check with the “Preview” button if your image looks as expected.

So you click Img, highlight with the cursor img/img when it appears, then click Img again?

1. enter the URL e.g. http://www.pbase.com/image/158555775/small.jpg
2. highlight the complete URL
3. press the "Img" button so that [] img text appears in front and at the end of the URL text
4. done/ready to check via. "Preview" button

Sorry if I seem dense, but I've no idea what a URL is. I wanted to put a jpeg pic from my computer there, can I do that?

As far as I know “Edit signature” only offers the “img” button functionality for images.
This means you need to provide a link/reference/
URL(=Uniform Resource Locator = standard internet references to a resource like an image).

This is not a file upload function like in “Edit avatar“.

You could store your image on a public (free) image gallery like http://photobucket.com/
to get such a reference to/for your image.
How this is done depends on which gallery you are using.

Ofcause you could send me that image and I put it in my gallery and let you know the link if this is helping you.

Ah right thanks, now i understand. I'd assumed it would work the same way for both the avatar and signature. I could easily send you an image in a PM, but is there a size limit like for the avatar?

Not sure if there is an official limit, but I would leave it to common sense. Not too big!

Just check with other signatures
(not much wider than 720 pixels and not much higher than 160 pixels)
keeping in mind that some use their smart phones to check from time to time.

If you picture is large no problem I can scale it for you.

Okay, thanks for your advice, I'll see what I've got about those dimensions.
