The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 1:39 pm
Hi all, yeah I know I am planning ahead, but there I was last night down the pub and I was sat there wondering what to wear for Halloween.

Well I ruled out the Tusken Raider (tis getting fragile in its old age) and theres no way I am wearing my marine outfit in town unless full supervised (don't want a chav trying to find out if the armour would block a brick).

So I needed a quick cheap costume that would look good, soooo, the thought is Xmen 1 Logan a.k.a. Wolverine (jeans and jacket version).

Well cruising on evil-bay I found a jacket that almost looks like the one from the movie (few differences of course, but close enough).

So, next the blades. Resin ones I think will be the best bet, afterall I don't want to be walking around with 6 8 inch aluminium blades comign out me hands. So I know a supplier for resin blades.

The rest seems quite easy, demin jacket, blue jeans, vest top, pair of cowboy boots (already have them) and a shirt.

I can always grow me hair, buy a cigar and get some dog tags.

Will post progress pics as and when. :)

So anyone else got any costumes online for Halloween?

Troon,

Your too tall to be Wolverine.
Also your not hairy enough to be screen accurate..:P

Still at least you were talked out of the movie version of Mystique..;)

Sounds like a fun costume.. Let us see pics when it's done..

Yeah...

Ain't this a coincedence. :P

It's supposed to be for D-Con next year- but I'll debut it at a local Halloween party first. Gonna be the simple movie version: white tank top, jeans, cowboy boots and claws (and for the cooler Canadian weather- brown leather jacket). The "beard" is going to be theatrical facial hair normally used for a wolfman costume. I'm not really allowed to grow a beard where I work.

Funny story behind this. I never dreamed of doing a Wolverine costume- But at D-Con on Friday night I was hanging out in the Hyatt with Tenticle Chris, and just wearing a tank top and shorts. A woman who knows Chris comes up and asks- "Does your buddy there do a Wolverine costume?". Chris said he didn't think so- so she goes on with, "Why not!? He looks just like him; he's built, he's short..." Chris cuts her off and says, "Yeah and he's Canadian!"

"OH MY GOD!!! HE HAS TO DO WOLVERINE!!!"
(For as we know- Wolverine was from Canada, and formerly in the Canadian army)

She talked to me for a bit and got me totally excited to do Wolverine next year! :D

I've got everything I need except the claws. I've decided to make them myself out of plastic to prevent any security problems associated with real steel claws.

Love to see what you come up with Mantroon! :D

Lacy- long trip but if you can make it out to Toronto, there will be parties galore! ;)

Hey, it doesn't take much to make a costume. Unless you're a movie goon like some of us.

heck, do an alternate reality costume... Female Wolverine!

If you own jeans, T-shirt and hair spray you're already half way there. :)

Obviously I need to move somewhere better, where people don't think dressing up is for 8 year olds. ;)

wow you are short :D How tall are you??

Either way - you will make a lovely Wolverine, I'm sure lots of girls will squeal ;D and you should come to my bday/halloween party.

Actually, everyone dressing up as Wolverine should.

I would be a very happy birthday girl.

That's not /too/ short. How tall is Wolvie in the comics? For some reason I have the idea that he's barely taller than I am...

The guys were talking about this at D-Con- apparently Wolverine is 5 feet tall or so in the comics. I was never into X-Men comics- I used to collect Batman and Justice League many moons ago. ;)

Hey Mantroon- sorry if we've temporarily hijacked your thread. At least the subject stayed the same. :o ;)

LOL no worries about the hijack.

I am probably not wolverine material, it just seemed like a cool (and relatively cheap) costume, except now I am buying the Wested leather jacket (thats going to get some serious wear time, costume or not).

I am trying to grow the hair, but the boss is already grumbling, so i might have to look into the facial hair appliances. Any details on those Burton?

This is what I'll be using (except it will be dark brown). It is made by Rubies. You unwind the hair, cut it to the length you need, and apply it with spirit gum (a liquid glue used for facial prosthetics). You have to buy the spirit gum separately.

Here's a link I found in the UK:

www.chickenshop.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_hal17_1441.html

But I'm sure you can find it at any local shop this time of year. ;)

Hope this helps. :)

Probably the easiest part of the costume turned out to be one of the most expensive- the dog tag. Seeing as I live in Canada, grabbing a set of Canadian Army dog tags was easy. Cost $7. Getting them engraved (they are not stamped like US tags) cost $18.95 at an engraving shop! Simply because they charge by the letter. :(

So lately I've been wearing the dog tag as a piece of jewelry- I'm getting my money's worth no matter what!

Did a search for that Wested jacket- waaaay too expensive for a costume (I see why you'll be wearing it often). My Indiana Jones distressed leather jacket will have to double for Wolverine. ;)

Great costumes, you guys! I haven't even thought about what to wear for Halloween yet. Last year Halloween brought us a hurricane. It's hard to get in the spirit when you're in the store fighting over water and bread instead of the last bag of fun-sized candy. mmmm......fun-sized candy.

well looks like the most expensive item for my version of the costume is going to be the wested jacket, which clocks in at about £155 (for the XXL) and a further £10 P&P... :(

but looking at the pics and comparing it to the original, it will be worth it:
