Oh aye, that's the thing where all the religious bigots use their football team as an excuse to stab each other, and folk they think might worship a big magic man in the sky in a slightly different manner than the other lot of people worship the same magic man in the sky, isn't it?

Can't stand the sport. In these parts, it's actually a very dangerous Extreme Sport to even leave the house on certain match days!



Anyway - For the World Cup, I'm sure some tabloid rag comissioned a set of photos with a girl frim each nation nude, but painted with her country's team's strip...

Sorry but Soccer IS actually football by definition As its played with the feet, thereby giving it the foot catagory.

Unlike that pansy american game of the same name which is just rugby with pads as the men arent man enough to play without protection - lol. How it can be called football when they use their hands I dont know.

Not that I follow either sport but come on now, its plainly obvious.

Soccer is actually a derivative term from "Association Football", same way Rugger is from "Rugby Football", if we're going to get into the finer points XD

Well since the thread is heading in all directions...


I used to play Rugby in highschool. Yes there was absolutely no protective gear (save for maybe a cup and something wrapped around your ears so they didn't get torn off )---

However because of the lack of gear- we wouldn't hit each other as hard as American Football players would collide.

I've watched my share of Rugby (not Australian rules) and never have I seen players flying through the air "helicopter" style as is sometimes seen in a brutal football collision.

Of course this is taking nothing away from Rugby- it isn't for girly men either.

But back to topic- here is my contribution: some Rugby fans!

To comment further on Burton's comment. My former boss had a friend from England come over so they took him to a football game. His response:

"No wonder you wear pads in this game. If Rugby players played liked that would kill each other."

Hey Tom, did your people invent Soccer, or the game it was copied after?

The reason I ask is because soccer was actually invented by the Mayans about 500 years prior to the first Olympic games (I actually did an indepth study of Mayan culture back in the mid-90's ), and they called their ball sport Pok-A-Tok.

These games were sometimes played to the death, with the captain of the losing team offering his decapicated head as the 'ball' in the next game.

Those were probably the very first truly extreme games.

Ah those crazy Mayans.

You mis-understood. I'm British. The game is called Football and you kick the ball with your foot. That other game is called American Football (you know, the one where kicking it with your foot isn't the main thing, and it copied the name from us.)

Personally I like to say, football [soccer] is a pansies game played by pansies. Well, at least in the "professional" realm anyway.

God forbid a soccer player should twist an ankle! It's the end of the world and mandates a huge ammount of rolling around, crying, and generally looking for sympathy where it's fairly well underserved.

That's one of the things I really HATE about the game. It's such a damn drama!!

I've played rugby in the past with guys who've practically had ribs sticking out and they've still been running around flattening the s**t out of the other teams winger.
Now them's real men!!
