Blasters are great, aren't they?
I'm so glad someone took all those nice high resolution photos of the screen used prop at that convention. Shame the pics were taken offline, and such a huge scandal erupted around them, though.

I'm very glad I saved them before everything went tits-up!

Yeah. I've got them too. Just thought I would give some young pup a chance to be a hero, first. ;)

Thanks for the heads up, though. It is the thought that counts!!

Only about 20 pages of threads over two related topics. :)

Theories vary.

Apparently, "Some Very Important People" were unhappy that the blaster was on display / had been photographed / had been shown to replica prop fans...
Then it transpired that an ID card shown in some of the photos did NOT match the ID card sold as part of a VERY expensive replica set - Buyers of which were made to sign a non-disclosure agreement before purchasing what was claimed to be a 100% accurate copy, based upon actual handling of the original prop.

The ID thread was even more interesting than the pistol thread, because the photos of the Uber ID replica are seriously NOT the same ID shown in the film.

That blaster thread went from being the most exciting thing I'd ever seen on the RPF to the most heart breaking and frustrating thing I'd ever seen pretty damn quickly.

Yeah I saved the pictures too, but the idea was that the sharing of information and open discussion was the real reason it was exciting. The pictures were beyond amazing to see (you guys know how much I love this film and that damn gun) and discuss among that community, with all it's thieves and bootleggers.

The ID thread was also VERY interesting for me, and I think eventually showed us why the whole thing really happened. Now, in retrospect, I don't think it was ever about the blaster pics at all.

The controversy about the blaster pictures:

The prop owner let people take lots of awesome closeup pics.

Then a propmaker/dealer declares a new version of his high-end BR blaster replica and takes orders.

Prop owner upset that the picture taking he allowed is being used for profit. He asks the guy who took and posted that batch of pics, who is not the propmaker/dealer and is not connected with him, to take them down. In the view of many it was an unreasonable request but the guy went ahead and did it anyway.

And then there were ten pages arguing wether the pictures should be released because they help get more accurate replicas, or should not be released because they show previously unseen "tells" that could be used down the road to authenticate an original from a replica.

Yeah, it's a 37 page thread, it's about LOTS of things, not just 1 thing. The thread morphed a couple times. Currently it's about Deckard's watch!!

It gooes deepr than that. Weather by design or accident, the thead portrays two very well-respected members of the RPF in a very poor light.

I don't think there is any design to the thread, or that the thread "portray's" anything.

People post and people react. Members are responsible for thier own posts. It's a heavy reaction thread, yeah, but when any member of the board doesn't answer simple and direct questions addressed directly to them, other members get upset and add comments.

If the photos were not removed, no one would ever have questioned anything. But moves were made, and motives were very much questioned right out in the open.

I think it should stay there and not bleed over to this board though. If you really want to know what happened, get a box of popcorn, settle in, and go read THAT thread.;)

Thanks for the concise clarification Jay.

Honestly, at about page 25 my vision started to blur. :)

Here's a question for the BR gurus...

Anyone know the origins of this pistol?

Image

Is that a Doppleganger? Or partial one? It's missing a few pieces.

Aye, as Noeland says - I posted here to let folk know that the discussion was happening over there, and that the pics were available but now are slightly harder to get hold of...
Although I am curious as to people's opinions as to the publication of detailed prop photos - I was thinking the other night, wondering if the esteemed Mr English puts tells in his commission armour so that there's no way it could be weathered, aged, and passed off as original.
( Well, I assume HE'D know the difference just by looking whether he deliberatelyput in a tell or not... But others may not be able to )

Well he does put a stamp into the metal on the shoulder bells and lobster plates (I believe)- which is his company's logo.

Perhaps these are missing on the original armour?

It's from japan, marco enterprises I think. It's not a doppleganger. If I am not mistaken this was the first fan made replica of deckard's pistol and it is HUGE and not even close to being accurate. I have two of them myself though, but I doubt they are original japanese kits, probably recasts.

As far as I know he takes photos of most of his suits, so he can tell if he made it. That's how I was able to determine if the Atari AvP suit was one of his, or a replica. The paint job matched up perfectly with one of Terry's. And someone at one point DID attempt to pass it off as screen used. :)

Gaaaaa... I had a whole thread here. But I'm heading to bed. Do a search (manual) on the Ready line. It might still be there.

The pics are missing now. I'll try putting them back on my web server. Give me a couple days.

Wheather intended or not that thread had all the earmarks big marketing stunt. Anyone who makes BR related swag will end up making money off all the buzz created by the publicity...good or bad...it's still publicity. And knowing most people they don't care where their swag comes from or who made it...people are funny like that sometimes.

Doppelgangers PKD's rock...the marco gun...not so rockin..it's not even elevator music..LOL

Say what you will about Doppelgangers "interpretation" I personally dig 'em the most... and I'll fight any man that says otherwise...;)

Regarding TE armor, I've noticed that the repros (though I've only seen a few) have six slots in the earflap armor, whereas the SU armor has only five.
