Just a quick 'Listen to your elders, blah blah blah post.' I went totally Nuclear about a month ago into the total body make over. I guess 2 hour cardio and 1 hour weights per day on a restricted low carb diet was a little shock to the old body. Makes your body totally susceptible to infections etc as it lowers you immune system.

ok, time i posted here.
Maybe you guys can help me with my diet, 'cos its not working and i cant figure out why :?

I started a diet a month ago. i've cut out all junk foods, chocolate, fizzydrinks, alcohol :( and as many carbs as i can (no bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc)

for breakfast i have a bowl of cornflakes with milk.
During the day i have 2 apples, 2 bananas, about 5 pints of water, and a weight watchers soup for lunch.
In the evening i normally have salad, or veg with grilled meat, anything along them lines.

As for excersise ive been doing 2 miles every night on a cross trainer, or going out for a jog.

Now for the problem....
In the first week i lost 4 pounds. Since then, in the last 3 weeks, i've lost nothing! not a single pound! in fact, one week i went up a pound! then lost it a few days later.
My clothes arent any looser, and i still measure the same round my waist and chest, so i dont think im putting on any muscle

any ideas?

Its just really disheartening, cutting out all the things i love and having nothing to show for it.

(on a side note, i tried slim fast for a month once..... i put on nearly a stone! lol, figure that one out :P)

Yes- give it more than a month.

Sorry for sounding short- but I really cut to the chase with stuff like this.

Your body and it's present weight has been the same way for years. It is used to staying the same. Changing what you eat is a start but it's going to take a while for real pounds to come off. And by real I mean fat- not water. The weight you lost/put on before was probably water.

You also have to appreciate that changing your eating habits isn't a temporary thing- it is a lifetime commitment. From 2003 to 2006 I quit training completely and put on a lot of weight. Near the end of 2006 (after already having been working out for a few months) I joined a little weight loss challenge on another message board- after 20 weeks I had lost about 21 pounds. But this was a strict diet.

You just need to keep at it- give it a couple of more months... But don't give up! If you stay dilligent the weight will come off. Everyone is different and everyone loses weight at different rates. Just give it time. :)

well i had a good week . no weight loss but thats ok i,m only 5-6 lbs away from where i would really like to be , so this week i implimented weights into my workouts . i was running 4 times a week but decided to switch it up to thre days running two days lifting , but i wanted to keep my cardio up so i got up even earlier and added 1 mile to my run so instead of 4 3mile runs i do 3 4 mile runs , as well as pushups 80 - 90 , situps 100 - 140 , curls kickback shoulders etc.. , i did my first round of pushups on tuesday ,,my pecs finally feel normal today (they hurt all week long )) , only three more weeks of hard training left , and then its on to the glory of being mr lv426__ 09 jk. not even close to kev , but i feel great , and thats whats most important ..

Okay, so my forearm muscles have improved, but neither bicep or triceps are showing any difference in shape and I've not been able to increase the weight for the triceps at all. :?

Forearms are looking much better and lifting bales of hay and straw is much easier, so I'm happy enough. :D

Also, the manager at the llama park is no longer worried that I'll do myself a mischief lifting them either.

For those looking to loose let me suggest the daily plate http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/ I resisted for the past year but in an attempt to get in the best (Spartan) shape of my life I gave in at the urging of my wife and several folks on our "300" board. Basically it's a calorie/fat/carb/protein tracker. Since I've been keeping tabs I've gone down from my stalled out 190-195 plateau and now sit at 178 with the hint of abs showing. I work out daily but I had to wrangle my diet before I saw the first of these "last few pound" changes. It's free and simple to use.

Very cool thanks for the link, sadly i can find no real way of fitting in what I do at work every day...

Its about 9 hours of a combination of sitting, working, lifting, using tools or running, lifting, working, and sprinting my butt off as I go rip roaring across the line. So I just use standing with moderate/heavy work as a "baseline" and underguess it... My PT is what I'm really making count.

Still no wonder I dropped 20 pounds in 2 months, I'm not taking in near as much as I'm working off. But I'm eating three squares a day with a small snack between breakfast and lunch.

You need to eat 5 to 6 small meals...then you'll notice a difference. Worked for me.

Sweet... last week I weighed in AT my maximum weight of 202lbs.

We also ran a mock PFT as well:

Mins for my age group (17-26) and max for everyone:

3 Pullups/Chinups out of 20 max
50 Crunches out of 100 max
28:00 3 Mile Run out of a fastest of 18:00

I did:

6 Pullups (Could have had more but I didn't do them with the PFT mindset, I did them all slow like)
95 Crunches
19:53 Run (My fastest since school which was a 20:30)

2 more pullups and 2 more crunches and I would have a first class. In addition to continue my weight loss I'm trying to get up to 10 pullups and then 12, and then 15.

Sadly I'm paying for the run with a bout of tendonitis but oh well, totally worth it.

You guys are making me feel fat and lazy! I do have a good excuse tho...

I've been thinking about how I'm going to ease myself back into working out. I've not put on as much weight with this pregnancy as I did last time which is promising though I do still have another 9 weeks to go so who knows what I may weigh afterwards. And I know I should expect at least a month of recovery after the birth (possibly longer if I have another c-section). To be honest I don't see myself being able to do much until after Christmas which really bums me out. :(

So over the summer I made 44 seconds on the run.... and then lost a pullup. Meaning I lost a point. 271.

Man I forgot to post an update of myself.

Well I've been cleared of my injury for about a month- and have been going to the gym for about 6 weeks.

When I first started back I could only bench press 75 lbs.

I'm now up to 235lbs for three reps! 8)

It's still a ways off of my normal amount- but I consider it in the "respectable" range again. I'm taking a week or two off myself for D-Con and the rest of my vacation. :)

I feel a lot better- just not Mr LV-426 shape yet.

I just wanna scream this from the freakin' rooftops... and I guess this is the most appropriate place.

I've been a ridiculous fruit diet since about March. Furthermore to this, I eat my beloved junk food only from Friday 9 PM to Sunday 9 PM.

NOW... THIS...

I just went out to buy myself two new pairs of pants: I'm down from size 42 to 38.

Woot-woot-woot-woot-woot-woot-woot-woot-woot!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ultimate goal: Back to some size 36's and I can finally relax a bit.

That is absolutely fantastic news Bro!

Feels great doesn't it? :D

Keep it up Bro!

I went to the gym yesterday after taking a couple of weeks off. I did actually do a small workout at the Marriott in Atlanta- but nothing like I usually would. Felt alright to be back in the gym- but I actually put on about 5 pounds over my vacation.

Junkfood is my worst indulgence- I love sour ju-jubes/gummies.

Unfortunately 5 pounds on my small frame is like 10-15 lbs on someone else. But... summer's over and I don't really need a six pack right now.

So I'm just going to ease back into my diet and not go koo koo. The hardest thing about a diet is keeping it up long term- diets aren't temporary.

Good to hear Travis!

Glad to know this thread hasn't died too.

As for me I've only been able to get to the gym a couple of times a week lately due to my work schedule. Unfortunately I've also been slacking off my diet (wife bought a boatload of choctolates/candies for Halloween  ) and I've obtained a bit of a spare tire.

However the added calories have done wonders for my strength- for instance in the decline press I'm about 20lbs away from my regular strength before my injury!

And I've finally started to get some size back to my arms. 8)

Twice a week training isn't quite enough for me to stay lean, however more than three times a week is too much- I end up overtraining. But I've got to get that third back day in!

Well, it's that time of year again and I think this thread needs another bump...

As we get closer to New Year everyone starts thinking about making a resolution that this'll be the year that they'll loose weight/get fit. And I've got an extra incentive to do just that.

I had my 8 week postnatal check on Christmas Eve and my doctor has told me that due to having high blood pressure during both of my pregnancies I now have an increased risk of hypertension in later life. As a result she suggested that I loose weight to help improve my quality of life and reduce that risk - a case of it being easier to loose weight now whilst I'm in my 30's than it will be when I'm 40 or 50 and being on hypertension medication.

At the moment I'm unable to do much in the way of physical activity due to my caesarian wound. I have to wait at least another month before I can start working out and it could be another four months before the wound is healed properly. So, rather than throwing myself into physical exercise I'm going to concentrate on my diet for the moment.

I don't have any set ideas yet but I know I can't go wrong with reducing the amount of chocolate and snacks I consume and to increase my water intake (rather than drinking coke all the time). Currently my BMI is at 27.9 (healthy range is between 18.5 and 24.9) and I weigh about 167lbs. For my height I should be between 112lbs - 143lbs so my first goal is to drop about 20lbs and see how we go from there.

So does anyone have any pointers for weight loss? What's worked for you?

cardio cardio cardio , thats what worked for me , but because of me poor diet i have platoued , or however you spell it , i lost about 22 lbs ,and gained back about 7 , but the day after dcon we joined a gym so some of that weight might be muscle , but i still need to lose the love handles ,and the only way that will happen is diet ,as is i do 4 miles three times a week and weights 2 - 3 times a week , because of work and kids , i cant do anymore , so the diet has to be kicked up a notch , and to make it worse two weeks after next dcon im 40  and its all downhill from there
