The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Any fully automatic weapon is just an excuse to burn through ammo. Semi auto only, if you want to hit anything.

Like Russ said, One shot to the head. Anywhere else is just wasted.

M14 or even better an M1 with a decent scope, and a big handfull of discipline to keep your hands steady.

You guys really should read the Max Brookes zombie survival guide.

Have to agree with Russ and Glen....

*5.56 is the way to go....weight wise you can carry more ammo than you could with a .308....and 5.56 will be easier to come by do to the military and alot of local law enforcement carrying AR's and M4's....not to mention parts (never know when a spring or firing pin will go)

*9mm will probabaly be the most accessible pistol round, though I prefer my .40 Glock ( and that is the same caliber my local police carry)

*and of course 12 gauge.....even bird shot can be effective if ya know how to make a quick and dirty slug out of a low brass skeet load.

You guys wanting the Barret....hey cool by me....good luck finding ammo.

Oh, by the way....everyone is so concerned about the Zombies....what about the other threat that will be hunting us as well.....FELLOW MAN.....aka: marauders....remember, they will most likely be shooting back

What I find most amusing about this thread is the flippant attitude about zombies.

You guys joke around like they are not real.

Start stockpiling guys. Start stockpiling.

All those Hollywood movies weren't entertainment- they were education and instruction.

The best movie for me would be between Shaun, 28 Days and the Resident Evil stuff. I'm not a Zombie fan, though. I'd rather be hunting down Werewolves, Vampires and Xenos.

Hey, I wonder if Silver Bullets come in 10mm Explosive-Tipped Caseless.........

I'm surprised that everyone wants guns for Zs, though.....

Firstly, Zs seem to respond to loud noises in many movies, so shooting will just bring more down upon you.

Secondly - Guns run out of ammo.

My, I'd be after something like a 5' English Billhook, so I could club, hack, slice, stab, batter, beat, smash and generally slaughter the horse, all relatively quiet-like. It means getting in close, but 1,000 years of history suggests that the Bill works rather nicely in such circumstances.

I'd keep a cudgel or a simple 28" broadsword for any close work and that'd be final.

However, if I have the opportunity for guns, ie open territory, no cover, they know I'm there etc - I'd be using a combination.

Good stopping power calibres in selective fire weapons for mowing down the horde and/or sniping individuals off. The idea is one shot, one kill, rather than fifteen shots 'just to make sure'.

I'd also want a shotgun for close range and to take care of any smaller animals that might be infected.

Not too fussed about which models, so long as they work.

Sorry, I should have clarified.... My idea of "good stopping power" is the sort of calibre that takes the head apart and/or half the torso at the same time. :D

If I have the time, I'm sure I'd be adding Claymores, flame units, chemical agents and other such fun fortifications.

Son, don't you know the only thing worse than a zombie is a zombie... that's ON FIRE?!
{/end Apone}

;)

Claymores though might be useful.

For close encounters..

A shottie. Accept no substitute, Until it goes click.

For real close encounters...

A proper wakizashi or Falchion.

Taskmaster, Chemicals.. Really?
If only a shot to the head will stop 'em what will chemicals do?

Unless your talking glow in the dark chemicals so they can't sneak up on you..:)

It's not 'on fire', sir... It's being burned to a crisp in a matter of seconds!!
[/Charles Dance voice]

Bearing in mind that the flamers will be medium distance defences, the Zeds won't make it more than a few yards once alight. The flames will destroy their soft tissue. The M240s kick out a blanket spray used to take out several Zeds at around 50m range.

Besides, if they make it to 50m range, then they've already breached a substantial dollar value of defence systems and I don't care what I'm using - I'm gonna waste 'em!!

Now how 'bout gettin' us some steaks and a few beers, man - I'm hostin' a bar-bee-que!!!!!!

Using a knife means having to get within a few inches of the zombies. Too close for comfort. One nibble and you're zombified!

Would "Lifeforce" count as a zombie film? They are kinda like vampires from space... but behave and look like zombies (or at least turn humans into zombies). I haven't watched that film in decades- now I'll have to get a copy!

The sort of chemicals I'd want?
They'd dissolve the head in a matter of seconds.
Again, it'd be a spray weapons, so taking care of several at once. Just hose 'em down!!!!

Nope. Tight clothing, silent weapons, replenishable water supply, etc...it's a real book, written exactly like any other survival manual, just, y'know, in case of a zombie outbreak. Fantastic read.

from a review on amazon: "...While obviously a parody of both the horror genre and civil defense/survivalist manuals, it maintains an "all-business" demeanor, never once cracking the façade to reveal the underlying humoristic intent. The result is a book that is, when taken as a whole, a funny, incredibly thorough work of satire. However, at the same time, page-by-page, it is a rather accomplished addition to zombie horror.

Starting with zombie physiology and then moving on to weapons, tactics, long-term strategy and history Brooks has produced a manual which has a thoroughness that belies the absurdity of its subject. Point by point he discusses the pros and cons of rifles, machetes and flamethrowers, then considers the optimal defensive positions for various types of outbreaks. After an extensive discussion of survival in a zombie doomsday scenario, he lays out zombie outbreaks through history, and what their implications are. Throughout, entries are extensively cross-referenced and alternative courses of action are always weighed for potential risks and benefits..."
