The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Jumping on the band wagon of people who think you did the right thing. Some people are just not going to be happy no matter how far you bend over for them. Sounds like this is one of them.

Dude, that's a hell of a track record. Sounds like you're doing the right thing, and people who know it will pass that kind of stuff on. So I wouldn't worry about one bad customer.

I also agree, send the nice man his money back....

It looks like pay - pal would have read the complant
and explained to him that when the 8 weeks were up
then he could file a complaint...

Send him instructions on how to make his own..
that way he can make it in a few weeks himself ...

Actually, you have the choice in PayPal of making a refund, or listing the tracking info on the item. Other than that, PayPal will always side with the buyer.

Sucks.

But he can always buy a Throat Guard from one of the other makers.... oh wait... no one else makes them....

:)

Spat,
As one of your customers, you do have great service, so this sucks.
My guess is the person knows how to "work the system" I tried to youtube the scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where the guy wants his money back for breakfast.

He's not an unhappy customer, mate - He's a twat who wandered into the wrong shop by mistake.

Send him back his money and tell him - since he knows better, he can go make his own armour!!!

You might want to put in the description that delivery can
take "...up to 6 to 8 weeks (that's TWO months). This is
because I craft these by hand for each customer in my spare time
working around the time requirements of my real job. I do not
keep stock on hand ready to ship because of the labor involved in
making them."

Just a suggestion because as everyone has already stated, in the
instant gratification age, 6-8 weeks seems like 6-8 years. ;)

Personally, Any transaction I've ever had with Spat has been
excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again.

Even if it took 6-8 weeks. ;)

I don't think it would make a difference.... i used to have on my web site... allow 28 days for delivery, all kits are cast to order.... and i still had people e-mailing / phoning me after a week wanting to know if i have shipped the kit... :? go figure..

All that info is already in the FAQ.

Here's the actual quote:

"How long does it take to make one set of armor?

If I do nothing else (and remember, making Marine armor is NOT my full time job, though it does sometimes feel like it) I can make a set of armor in 5 days. But, since this is something I do as a hobby, I can't devote that much time to it, so it usually takes me 2 weeks to make a set. To make it easier, I do make multiple suits at once, usually 2 or 3 sets at a time. There are occasional delays in the making of the armor, since making armor is not my full time job. This is actually a hobby of mine, and there are times where real life, and my actual work gets in the way of the free time I need to make Armor. I hope you can all understand that.

From the time the order is places, it can take 4-8 weeks for the armor to be ready to ship out, and sometimes it can take more."

I can post whatever info I want, but I can't force people to read it or understand it.

True, true. You might want to put the 4-8 weeks in bold if it isn't
already. :)

How often do you have people order armor/parts? If you wait to
do 2-3 suits at a time, would it be easier to make up an extra one
or two?

Or does it become a storage issue then?

Except when their system looses your original complaint and then they dismiss the new one because it's "after the 60 days" limit.
Even when I explained that I had filled in plenaty of time and THEY lost it they still refused to budge on my claim. Bastards!

When I started, I made 2 sets at a time. Then I was getting more orders so I upped it to 3 sets at a time. And when things were the most insane I upped it to 4 sets.

The problem was that with making more suits, I have to keep a lot more materials on hand, and actually finishing the suits takes forever. Instead of taking 2 weeks to finish a batch, it takes 3-4, or longer if I run out of materials and have to wait for them to come in. So it really doesn't save a lot of time. I never had an issue with storage because I never had a suit not already sold before I made it.

I'm now back to making 2 suits at a time. I can keep less materials on hand, and I can realistically finish the 2 sets in 2 weeks once I start on them, barring any movie work, or insanity in real life.

Making more than 2 at a time is a pain in the butt, and I won't do it except at like Halloween, or before DragonCon when I'm already making armor 12 hours a day for 4 weeks without taking a break so everyone can have their gear in time.

I can make the ship times in bold, bright red, make them flash and even have them pop off the screen and kick you in the shin, people will still ignore it or not read it.

But again, 9 years and this is the first issue I've had with someone having a problem with the wait time.

It'll be alright.

Haha, The sad thing is that i did the same thing and I'm from Cali. I remember Dcon 07 first time ever paying for armor, I misread spats email and almost wasn't done by Dcon. But Spat being the good man was able to get my gear to me literally the day before Dcon, I just got the box, looked at it, tested it and put in my storage bin to get on the plane in the morning. I was young and stupid lol didn't know how much time and talent it took to make the armor. But now, Spat gets a drink from me every Dcon for his gratitude.

I know im late but just wanted to share :D

Thanks! Yeah, if someone contacts me and says they need something by a certain date, I will bust my butt to get it to them in time. You just have to tell me.
