Looks like Eagle and the Reverend had it pegged right away.
Not only did they guess it was faked, but had an idea of why it was done in the first place.

Keen intuition on their part.

The part I don't understand is... the manufacturer actually requests that you completly destroy the original?

You would think that you could just send them back the semi-broken one and they could either salvage the good pieces or destroy it themselves.

The fact that they will replace it only after you send them a bag of broken junk seems odd to me.

they need proof, not the broken one.

It cost less to send pictures of a completely destroyed biker scout (or bigger collectible) then ship the whole thing. People would complain if they had to pay 50$ to ship it back just to get what they originally paid for...
