The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Personally if I'm out and see a man or woman in uniform....I walk over and shake their hands and say thank you (85% of the time as they are often busy and I wouldn't want to disturb)

I do this because I respect the decision they made.
They put their lives on the line in a time of war and its the job they took.
My job is to make sure people pay their loans on time and the company is taking appropriate action if they are not.
Their job is to protect the lives and liberties of others....with their own lives if necessary.
To me, that is simply amazing and I believe all persons in the armed forces deserve our utmost respect. US, UK and indeed all over the world.

Now this is just my opinion and I understand others have theirs.

How many of you live in a military town?

I live over in the Hampton Roads area. More specificly the Virginia Beach/Norfolk Virginia area home of the Atlantic Fleet and Naval Air Station Oceana. In fact, as I type this I can see the lights of the drydocks.

So maybe all of yall's experience with recruiters has been different, but my eperiences have been down right invasive. Starting from highschool they implant themselves into the school, interupting classes and litteraly cornering students in the hall to ask them what they're doing with thier lives.

You'd think it would end but no, they manage to get your phone number after you register for selective service and then call you. None stop. At least that's what they did to me untill I told them I'd file suit if they continued to call me.

Maybe you all live in a different world, but the world I live in is filled with recruiters who are down right disgusting. Oh ho ho, don't get on me, my ass lives in a military city. Of the seven city's the majority of it is military or military contracting, so I know what I'm talking about.

Recruiters lie, cheat, hide the facts, and lie some more. I have off the top of my head at least three friends who were lied to when they signed up and are now paying the price because recruiters are dishonest slimeballs who want nothing but numbers and don't really care who they get.

I would LOVE to drive the recruiters out of this town. YOu want to joint he military? Good on ya, I'm proud for you, sign up on the internet and hop on a bus, but keep those fuckers out of our highschool, colleges and stop calling me.

Never mind recruiters, but green military children. E4s and lower. Disgusting. Pedophiles, criminals, disrespectful, liars, thugs and a disgrace is only half of it. Locals around here pride themselves if they find a place that isn't loaded up and infested with perverted squids.

I support the troops, not the cause, but untill you know what it's like to live in a military city, you may not want to say much of anything, because where I stand, Left crazy hippies or not, I don't want like or appreciate recruiters and what they do.

Here, here!

For those of you that are still in High School that do not want to be hassled by military recruiters via phone/internet, you can Opt-Out following the link below.

I did, and it worked.

I do think it's a bit much to actively pursue students.

I support links between recruiting offices and schools to allow those who are interested to gain the information they need and to help them to plan for their future career.
If that's the route they wish to take I think it's important to have a plan early on to allow them to make the correct choices regarding subjects to study; degree's if they wish; and also to consider what they'll do after the forces.

Part of my job is working with the Armed Forces Careers Office and offering potential recruits an insight into what recruit training and life in the RAF is like. Partially through two, week long residential courses that we run each year.

I think recruitment presentations are a good idea as they can offer oppertunities that people may not have considered but to be chasing students who haven't registered an interest is just a bit out of line.
