The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

As for details of the encounter...My friends and I were waiting in his que for an autograph and a pic. It was Friday at a small con. Other than the guy in front of us no one was waiting. The stress level was low to nonexistent for the stars. Biehn had been out in front of the table talking seemingly jovially with a guest. The con owner walked by at which time Biehn bolted away from the table to intercept him. They disappeared for 10 minutes and when Biehn came back he slammed himself down in his chair and stared at the table. My friend walked up with his DVD to get signed which was snatched out of his hand and unceremoniously marked without a word from "Hicks". I walked up next and joked, as I stood there in full USCM gear "I'm a fan of your movies!" To which he grunted. I then said "Okay. Um, may I purchase an autograph?" to which he replied, still face down as he stayed the entire encounter "pfaw". Which I assumed was drunken ass for "sure". I paid and he snatched a few pics from his stack and literally scribbled two unidentifiable blobs in the lower corner. As soon as he was finished he flicked the pic at me which I saved from a fall to the floor only by my hockey honed reflexes. He continued his slump/stare as I said ,undeservedly, "thanks" and walked away. My friend behind me dressed as Vasquez didn't even approach him out of fear. As we walked the floor and ran into various vendors, attendees and staff the general concensus was that he and the Wild Turkey weren't getting along. His inebriated unprofessionalism and consitenly bad attitude was already legendary just a few hours into the weekend. Schmuck.

I would have called him out and said 'I'm paying for you to write your name, the least you can do is smile and act like your enjoying yourself'

Makes you wonder what the con organisor had said to him.

There's a very infamous convention organiser over here in the UK. I'm sure most of you know the story of how the HHACA exhibition was treated at one event a few years ago.

During that event someone told me they overheard a celebrity angrily asking "where's my f*cking money?" - now I can't remember who the celebrity was right now, UKCM/Legacy folks might remember this as I think someone from here told me this. Please post if you can remember.

It seems organiser/celebrity friction may be something that's common to the US and the UK.

Sometimes all it takes is a little thought; some sandwiches and water, a few coffees - that kind of thing. Organisers who treat event guests well are respected and remembered. I won't do anything for that guy again, but Malika for example treated the HHACA, UKG and UKCM very well at the 2006 Sci-Fi weekend, and I'd jump at the chance to work with her again.

Oh wait, I am! See you in November! :)

Harry

Tony and Harry beat me to the punch!

Harry's post is very true. Convention organizers are not usually showbiz types, so there can be friction between showbiz types who are used to getting their ways, and used to being the center of attention in thier own world, and the show organizers who by the time the show is happening are frayed, tired, and over it.

I was going to post that Beihn probably caught up to the organizer because of some sort of unfinished business, or possibly with a complaint of some kind, and who knows what happened from there, but whatever happened obviously soured the guys mood. It was probably money.

That doesn't excuse his behavior. Even if he was having a bad day he had no right or excuse to behave poorly and take it out on attendees and fans.

But actors are generally moody sorts, and they can certainly be bitchy. Throw a little alchohol on that fire, well . . . It's a crap shoot what thier mood will be when they are sober!! hahaha.

I would suggest though that you give him another shot next show you see him at. Just shake it off, write it up to bad timing waiting in line. Had you gotten to him a minute earlier and all that.

Maybe if we can get him to Dcon with some other marines he'll behave himself. Who knows.

Well although I do work in the industry I wouldn't really class myself as a showbiz prima donna - as long as I'm provided with my rare cheese platter and Cheddar Vodka than I'm happy. ;)

Seriously though I would never expect to be pampered, just looked after really - respected if you will. My point above was that it doesn't take much, just a coffee, some water and a sandwich says a lot about how grateful the organiser is to have you there.

An event is made a lot worse when you have to watch the organiser's team wheel carts of fruit, water, sanwiches and coffee right past you to the celebrities signing autographs. Re my story above I was doing the event for expenses, how hard would it have been to drop one of these carts off at the HHACA stand for me and my crew? In the end I bought sandwiches, water and coffee out of my own pocket for me and the guys, money I know I'll never get back.

See, I'm all bitter - over a sandwich and a coffee!

Harry.

Sandwich & coffee.......see no cheese. No wonder Harry threw a wobbly.

FYI on Beihn, I've been in touch with his 'guy' at ICM and I'm just waiting on a response.

I can't say anything about Biehn, but the word I've heard on Mayhew is he's great if you treat him as a regular guy but goes a bit wiggy if you treat him like a celebrity. Yeah, I know crazy for a man who makes his living off of his celebrity status, but that's what I've heard.

Well, I'll still trade PM for Collette Hiller. I need to start my collection of screen used actors someplace.

Do you think she'll mind sharing with my wife? ;)

Yes, we did a run through before the event on who was doing what, who would be placed where etc..

I've met Anthony Daniels quite a few times, he reminds me of Agent Smith in The Matrix , ME, ME, ME, me............... I'm sure on a good day, he is fine.

Have to agree with Harry, if the event organiser looks after the actors/ displayers. costumers, everyone is happy. I attended the first NSC Sci-Fi weekend a couple of years back, doing the RPB prop party. I couldn't believe how well we were looked after. Most events we attend as the UKG, we don't event get water. Malika the May the 4th event, can I put in an order for chicken and jam sarnies ;)

I know the lady who runs the masquerade at D'con once told me she would never let Anthony Daniels MC again. He required that all the entries were typed in 24 point font so he didn't have to read his glasses and then went through and editted them.

That just sounds like someone who's trying to do a good job. Gotta admit, some of the contestant-supplied copy goes on and on.

Sucks that he wouldn't sign those DVDs, though. Not cool.

Considering your collection, and your willingness to share it with fans, I think you'd be a feather in the cap of any convention or event! I certainly do hope to see the collection in person some day and shake your hand.

But respect seems to be a big word at some conventions I've attended. Stars don't respect fans, organizers don't respect dealers of professionals. You have to wonder how these people behave away from the con floor.

Beihn for instance with the alchohol on his breath, was it because he was drunk form the night before, or because he ran off and did a few shots!

On a positive note, my favorite conventions as an artist were always the motor city comic con, and the pittsburgh comic con. Before wizard bought it, I enjoyed chicago a great deal too. Toronto was also amazing and the organizers very cool.

I didn't attend too many sci-fi shows, or toy shows. I wish now that I did though.
:D

Thanks Noeland, I appreciate that.

I'd love to bring the exhibition over to the US, but unfortunately it's the cost of doing so that's the prohibiting factor. I need a sponsor - preferably a beer company LOL!
