The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It's called an S-M6. It's based off the Beretta CX6 Storm carbine.

Gooood progress there bro! Coming along nicely!

Thanks Rex! :D

I also bought some stuff to make an improved anti-HK bomb:

Image

So these are abs plumbing parts jammed together (still haven't even glued them yet  ). A little better looking than my first bomb---

Image

Only thing is that it's a little undersized. Not a big deal. However it does mean that the handle (which I still have to find) will need to be in scale with the bomb casing and not a full sized handle to look right. I've been keeping my eyes open at dollar stores for a kid sized shovel or something (I'm usually pretty good at picking something out).

But check this score! :D

Image

Here is what I'll be using for the bomb pouch to attach it to my shoulder! (Airborne Mike should recognize this- Dom might too  ).

It's the bottom half of a Canadian Forces issue coffee thermos sleeve! :D

I found this by total fluke! Basically when I took the blue jacket back to exchange it, the CVC jacket was cheaper and I needed to pick something to make the exchange an equal value. I walked around the store forever trying to find something to buy for the hell of it when I came across the coffee thermoses! :D

Yeah, I have one too... but yours seems to be all canvas, mine is made of some sort of synthetic impermeable material. Quite honestly, I've never used the damn thing... I've never been a big fan of WintEx...

Progress update---

About the flight jacket- after much agonizing I came to the conclusion it's screwed. The paint makes it feel like a jacket made out of a box. It's ridiculous. So I decided to scrap it and put it in the loss column.

Remember how Dropship Bob thought the headset Reese wore was the same as a smartgunner headset- a Beyerdynamic headset? Well after very close scrutiny I discovered it is actually a Shure brand headset. Either an SM10A or SM12A model:

Image

SM10A

Image

SM12A

Really hard to see because of the stark contrast- but here is Reese's headset. What lead me to believe it is a Shure model is the 8 little "holes" on the back of the microphone (the Shure model has the same holes). Also the distinct cylindrical counter-weight on the boom arm. Now the 10A and 12As have slightly different headbands compared to the screenused piece (from what I could makeout)- so it might be an earlier model.

At any rate the Shure headset is as close a match I could find. :D

And now for some more success...

Looking around for another flight jacket (and having very little luck), I went into a local surplus store and asked if they had any MA-1s.

The owner said he only had a couple left as he had just ordered some more. He had two. One black, the other sage green.

I tried on the sage green one. It was a perfect fit!!! :D

It was used and a little beat up. The guy asked for $20 for it! :D :D

Now on Steve's advice of using an airbrush- I bought some Tamiya acrylic spraypaint in a colour I thought looked close.

It worked!!

The fabric stiffened up slightly (I would call it a little firm) but still remained flexable.

I didn't take a before picture (I was pretty excited at the good luck I was having) so here's a similar one:

Image

(Please no jokes about the alcohol- ya'll know I don't drink   ).

And here's the after:

Image

Really really happy with this end result! :D :D :D

The paint is slightly mottled allowing the green to show through in some spots (just like the screenused jacket)!

More to come!

Isn't it funny how when someone points something out you start noticing it in other places. I was just watching a re-run of an old Battlestar Galactica TOS, which is something I haven't watched since I was a child and was surprised to see this headset in use all over the place. Characters on the Galactica bridge were wearing them as well as Starbuck and someone else in one of the transporters.

Little off topic but just thought I'd mention it. :)

Progress on the costume is looking great btw Kev. Keep us posted mate.

Cheers

Darren

Cool eh? :) And I don't mind the slight OT. I didn't realize they used that headset either and I own the entire series on dvd (gonna have to check it out now)!

Great decetive work on the headset Kev. Do you have some prior experience with this particular headset? You seem to know a lot about it!

Found the hat for me! At Target! It'll take a few modifications, but it's good for me. Got the pants, jacket already. Found the bomb handle on a plastic beach shovel. Weapon on the way. Have a WWII holster already. Got a nice headset to use. Need to source the moving blanket...and make the leg armor.

It won't be as screen accurate as Kev's, but it should be recoginizable as being from the same unit, which was my goal...

Gotcher back Kev! 8)

Thanks DSB! I don't have much experience with it (none actually  ). I just started a search on ebay for "headset microphone" and thought, "Hey... that one looks right!" I kinda struck gold by chance.

But I do like to think I have a good eye for this sort of thing.

Good news there Rex! Glad I won't be alone against the machines! :D

So I've made the decision to make this a true Reese impression and make the nametape identical. 8)

The moving blanket is kicking my ass! I want to get the one that is screen accurate- there are two kinds, one with wavy lines and the other with the correct zig-zag pattern. I keep worrying that if I order the correct one, they might send the wrong one... or the colour won't work... blah blah blah.

So I'm still considering my original plan of re-stitching the quilted material I had for my first version of this costume.

Very cool bro! Make sure you let me know what you use for the name tape, the arm "wrap tape", etc. so I can use the same stuff.

How's it coming on the shin armor? I'll have to start mine...as soon as I finish my WotW...or when I take a break from it. Typical me, working on multiple costumes at one time...

Haven't really been working on it since I cut the leatherette pieces:

Image

I still have to get some straps for them (thinking of taking the easy way out and using nylon straps). I'm on the fence about using quick release buckles, or something a little more primative looking.

The screenused straps were riveted to the shin guards, but I'll be simulating that with some rounds brass studs like these:

Image

Just gotta get my butt in gear and do this! :D

As for the arm bands- I'm considering just buying a cheap end piece of dark brown leather and cutting all the straps I'll need. Two arm bands per arm, a neck band, and a long belt that goes around the base of the jacket. All of them use a double set of D-rings.

They are Beyerdynamic HM560 microphones. It is the same mic that the marines use on their helmets except it is attached to a headband

Cheers

Heh! Thanks Bro! Guess it's time for an update. 8)

Been playing the waiting game for some components to arrive (all ebay wins). Figure this time of year takes a little longer than usual.

But last weekend I managed to finish making the anti-HK bomb:

Image

Unfortunately I had to remove the rear "bumps" so the bomb would fit in the canvas pouch. Because I was tired and quite impatient that evening- I took the quick way out and sawed them off rather than taking the time to sand them down properly. I'm not too pleased with myself as it looks rather chewed up.

Doesn't matter too much as it will be staying in the pouch pretty much the whole time.

I also received one of those wins yesterday-

Image

Although this is not exactly screen-accurate (Reese's gas mask had two filters: one on each side), it's as close as I figured I would find without breaking my budget. :)

More updates as stuff arrives (I'm actually waiting on 6 different auctions- one just cleared customs today!).

Sorry to resurrect such an ancient thread, but if you want a good clear look at the uniforms, I think I've found a bargain-bucket DVD you could get a lot of info from.
Tonight, during my usual insomniac channel hopping, I found some dreadful low-budget sci-fi tripe on Zone Horror. It's a movie called Unknown Origin (aka The Alien Within). And almost all the cast are wearing the Terminator uniform! There are some colour variations according to rank & post, but due to the flat lighting and uninteresting camera angles, you can get a good look at the cut of the whole suit.
Look out for it, just don't watch it for the sake of entertainment. Poor Roddy McDowall, reduced to this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114795/

Heh!

Thanks for the help Wayne!

This project has kinda been put on the back burner. I pretty much have all I need to put together a 95% accurate Reese suit- I just lost the motivation to finish it (mostly painting a lot of things gray, adding the padding to the jacket, and making the custom greaves).

Here's a bit of an update shot...

Image

I even managed to make this little replica (probably the easiest I've even done  ):

Image

I also snagged one of those mini televisions to make the rifle scope with. It would actually work too... except I have to wait until "The Terminator" is being played on a channel it can pick up on UHF... and even then the scope will only work for about three seconds (the duration of the "looking through the scope at the aerial HK" sequence   ).

Sooner or later I'll get around to it again.

Oh and perhaps this should be moved to the OT forum. :)
