The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

National Novel Writing Month (here)

Basically it's a not-quite-competition where each and all participants has between the 1st and the 30th of November to write 50000 of some moderately coherent text - ideally a complete novel/novella.

I heard about it this year on the 30th of October, and have been busy since first finding some story to write, and then actually writing it. I'm on 13000 words as I write this - going well so far, wheee! :D

Anyways, it's a bit late as heads up go should you want to participate, but it will at least explain why I'm not on these boards much these days. And I'm curious to see if any of you are doing it maybe?

Anyways. I'm going back to it. I want to hit 15000 tonight if I can.

You ought to post it when you are done. Some of us other 'would-be' writers might like to see what you put together. Maybe next year I'll join you.

I'm happy enough with what I've done so far that I'll probably find some way to make it available online - I just need to sort out the copyright situation before I put a fully developed story on the Intraweb... :P

Of course, I also need to finish the writing. It looks like I can get to 50000 with reasonable ease - I hit 15500 last night - but with the story I've laid out, I'll need around twice that to wrap it up.

Anyways. In the meantime, an excerpt is available at www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=158620
Feel free to read and then crucify me!

looks like a good story - thanks for sharing. I'll probably do some "stalking" of your posts on that site this month. :) It all looks like so much fun I wish I had known earlier. Plus translating your french blog was good for my brain! Anyway, I do some editing on the side for some friends who write both shorts, novels and scripts, so later, if you want an unbiased read/commentary from someone who doesn't have to look you in the eyes - unless you make it to DragonCon in Atlanta, and then you will be so crazed it won't matter - let me know. (Although I am sure you have plenty of people around you to help)

Good luck. and keep writing! If I get brave enough, maybe I'll share too. Have a few shorts and some other things in the works, and am starting my newest inspiration this morning! Cannot wait to get it framed out on paper.

I know the feeling! I had stopped writing for almost 5 years when I heard of NaNo - pure lazyness and procrastination, with a dash of stupidity.

It feels so good to be actually writing something...

Unbiased read/commentary is good - I'll need it. It's always hard to tell someone what's wrong with their baby when you look them in the eye! ^_^ When/if I finish the story, I'll give you a shout - but only if you WANT to read it. No point in torturing yourself!

Thanks anyways for reading this excerpt, and your good opinion! :o

And DO share yours! :P

will do - but may run and hide in the closet while it's being read!

Well, Ladies and Gents, it's official. As of this morning 1.30 am local time, I have written 50700 words and completed the NaNoWriMo assignment thing.

As for Mrs EKBATL, who actually started a good 10 days late, she managed to finish a day earlier...

It's been a royal pain to force ourselves to write day after day - or in my case, night after night - but it's also been a total blast. There's nothing like creating something yourself, as most of you, costume and prop makers, know full well. Well, Mrs E and I are more into the 'crafting words' department, but the principle is the same!

Anyway, I just wanted to come out and do a little victory dance and all, because, well, I'm kinda proud to have done it. And I'm damn proud to have done it side by side with her-who-writes-like-crazy - do you know it's rumoured she even has a social life?

WOW congratulations.
I was able to write about 1000 words <lol> but I wasn't in the contest so that really is a fantastic achievement!!!

Luinsar, right back at ya - it was a pleasure doing it with you babe. Plus it got me off my proverbial A** to go ahead and get that story written instead of only doing shorts.

So we'll be doing it again next year, right? And one day we'll be signing those autographs at that corner table at the cons.

LOL
