The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I know the grand daughter of the first guy who officially died in the glider landings on D-Day.

Lest we forget.

They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
With the going down of the sun,
And in the morning
We will remember them.

I count myself as honoured to have met veterans from the 101st and 82nd, and the 1st ID (one of the latter was only 16 at Omaha having lied about his age to enlist).

Without them, and the many others, American, British, Canadian, and those other Europeans who joined the fight to liberate their homelands, who were willing to do what was necessary when called, this world would be a far different and darker place.

There I was, no shit, cold, tired and hungry on DZ November on the 50th Anniversary of D-Day landings. Yes Marines, I jumped on the 5 Jun 1994. Well you say the 5th? Yup that's when the jump was organized, one day before th big one. We had 20 something Hercs and a few C160 Transaals. I got to use the new Brit Low Level Parachute (LLP) from a stretch Herc. So many paratroopers in that aircraft, we had to do a second pass unlike the old goonie birds C-47 of WW2 fame. Jumped rucsacks (bergans for the Brits), no weapons (security would cut into our drinking) at 800 ft Above Ground Level (AGL) into a field that was DZ November back during the landings. People were everywhere. The crops were 4 feet high so after I landed, had to go for a DZ piss on my knees. In midstream, 2 Brit medics (one a chick) asked me if I was OK. We were all surprised  After humping my main chute, reserve & ruc to the Rendezvous (RV), I was awarded my Brit wings. That nite, we we at Pegasus Bridge at the EXACT moment the gliders landed (led by Major John Howard who was there). It was awesome. Then we drank heavily for 5 days. Yeah, D-Day is important to me big time. Anyway, I better save some war stories for Dcon

Mike

Oh yeah, after looking at the beaches, I would have jumped in instead
of doing a shore landing ANY DAY.

In 1994, my tour of duty just end so i ve watch Mike's jump on TV but in 2002 as a renactor i ve done the US 2nd and 5th Batt. RANGER March from Utah beach to La Pointe du Hoc, fully equiped, some even carried the ammo (deact)dotation, Bazooka rockets (inert) or Radio.
If was only for the kind of combat boots they got at this time, you must have respect...
But entering in 2 colums alone, 2nd and 5th Ranger on the Pointe du Hoc area to show how we were gratefull was priceless and this cold and foggy mornin', sometin' in the air made my eyes irritating a bit...
2 days later was the supposed to be 24 Kilometers march that extend to 28 Clicks, under a killing sun for US Paratroopers Renactors, as part of The 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion 's renactors. I WAS INSANE, my blister finally exploded and blooded. Can't done the whole trip on my foot but buddies and organisation were "kinds" enough to allowed all the "wounded" that could do it to made the parade for Vet's, "real" Soldiers and publics...in St Mère Eglise
Image
In 2004, all was done to avoid clash of security and with U.S. S.S. for POTUS, so no deact weapons, no molded Mk2 HG, no combat knife or bayonet
Image
ANW arriving for 12hrs at St Marie du Mont the 285 or least US Paratroopers renactors cross several Bus full of Vets, i want to believe to have read on one "101st ABD 506th P.I.R. E. Co.", the looks of those ederly faces, then Heroes of WWII was Priceless as the bottle of Normandy farm product Calva white alchool, we share with the brother of that day
Image
Later this year as the last December, i was in Bastogne, 1h30 were i live, and as a sign of destiny, 2004 Christmas was snowy again, in Belgium :D
Image
Last December was not white because TOO COLD ANW we ve been there again (in a place far of the fight, don't want to dig in a holy land)

Let us also not forget that in 1942 the Battle of Midway was wrapping up. The turning point in the Pacific.
