The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I have a brief question; this will be my first time to DragonCon and first time traveling alone. The question I have is that I don’t know if I really want to travel with my gear (armor, weapons...etc) in the airport and I heard people shipped them to their hotel. My question is for people who have done this is how and does it cost much to ship from California or anywhere else to the hotel in Atlanta.
Thank you for your time
Adriel.

I know Jesse D FedExed his gear from SanFran to Atlanta and didn't have any issues.
Best thing to do is just go to the http://www.FedEx.com website and check on quotes. Also I'd call the Hyatt and get the procedure from them of accepting packages etc. They may have a special address to ship it to.

Really the cost is just the shipping (just be sure to insure it should the unthinkable happen)

Don't use USPS to ship. I had my wife pay for overnight shipping of my abdominal armor and it never arrived. Well, a week later it turns out it DID arrive, but was delivered to the hotel next door!

I ship armor all over the world, so I think I'm authorized to answer this...

USPS Priority costs between $15 and $25 to ship a suit of armor in the US.

The hotel will hold it if you let them know in advance. Shipping it back from Atlanta is where you get screwed. The Marriott has a UPS or FedEx thing built into it, but in addition to the shipping charge, they charge an extra $20 to $25 in just a "service" fee. It's insane.

And you're pretty much stuck with it, since it's the only thing open on Labor Day to ship stuff out with.

And Russ, next time make sure you take your Ab Pad with you, instead of leaving it hanging off the stripper pole. Perv.

:)

I take mine with me. 25 gallon Rubbermaid container w/ wheels-
$20-
TSA Approved Locking Strap- $15

Pad it w/ foam, load it up. Print out and tape to your weapontry-
something like this: "This is a Prop Replica from the movie Aliens"

Also, at the ticket counter, tell them you have expensive movie props, you want them inspected, and you want to be present when they are inspected. They are really good about it.

Pick up at the "Odd sized" luggage section.

Works fine. Thanks for the advice last year Dave! (dsw777)

I got the straps but I wanted to ask a question about the size of bins you can take? I found a 45 gallon bin with wheels which will be a good size for all my armor via like 4 suits or 3 and was wondering if anyone know if that be good with the airport to take on the plane like do they have a certain size chart to put in cargo? Hopefully you understand my rambles lol
