The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey guys. I'm hoping that some of my buddies in central Florida will be able to give some advice to a fellow USCM.

It is looking increasingly likely that I am going to need to make an "emergency" visit out there sometime early-ish in 2007.
It also looks like I may have to find accommodation for the time out there. Maybe just a few days, maybe the entire two weeks.
I'm on a super-tight budget and so I'm wondering if any of you guys around there know of any cheap (but acceptable - i.e. somewhere I'm not going to wake up dead) accommodation within easy reach of Haines City - I won't be driving while I'm there so it'll be taxi cab's. Hence why I don't want to be too far away.

Absolute worst case scenario - I'll have to check out some of the hotel's along the 192.
Or maybe I'll just walk around Walmart all night and then accross the highway to Dairy Queen for Breakfast! lol

Any pointers you can give will be greatfully accepted!

Thanks guys!

Gareth

can't help w/Florida, but if you end up needing any in the Atlanta area, let me know and I'll be able to help out.

I'll ask around to some of my buds who work in the hotel business and see what I can find. As for random 192 choosings I'd advise against it. Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista has gotten pretty rough in the past few years.

Thank you Chris, that'd be great!
You're a true star!

>Kissimmee/Lake Buena Vista has gotten pretty rough in the past few years.

Thanks for the tip! I'll keep that very much in mind!
There are one or two of the more "touristy" variety I'd probably trust, it's just the expense that's a problem.

Hopefully I won't need it and will be able to stay with a certain someone. But it's a sensitive issue at the moment and I can't really push it. That's kind of why I'm coming out there.

But anyway. The closer I can get to Haines City the better.

Thank you! I'll keep that in mind too!

Aw craps, sorry to leave you hanging. I haven't had too much time for the boards lately

As for a place to stay. No. I have some friends who work the I drive corridor at various hotels but nothing down where you need it unfortunately. Davenport is a pretty nice area from what I remember though. My wife was actually living there when we met. 192 is really the only caution area you need to worry about. And some of 192 is fine. Some not so much. If you find some choices lemme know. I can at least do a drive by and see if I get shot at or not;)

Hey, that's OK man. Thank you for trying. :D

If I could drive it would be easier. :S
Davenport isn't really too far away. I mean it would be even better to be as close as possible but I've got to be realistic.
It's certainly closer and easier than staying up on International Drive.

Thank you for offering to drive by, you're a true friend!
I'll keep you posted. :)

Thanks

Gareth

I was actually at a hotel this weekend in Kissimmee doing some work for an new upcoming Sci-Fi con that's being held there this September. It was nice and was in a decent/safe part of 192 about a 2 minute drive West of the I-4 intersection. Check it out, maybe it'll work for you:D www.worldgateresort.com/

Thank you Chris!

I gave it a look. Nice looking hotel! Unfortunatly it's way out of my price range and far more than I'm looking for this trip.

I will look for anything in Davenport too, that's just about the same distance to where I need to be as central Haines City.

Thank you for thinking of me dude!

Crap, sorry...I didn't even think about the price. My bad. Still a decent area if you find another more cost effective alternative nearby.
