The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

That's... pretty darn cool. Does he have a web site or anything? I'd like to see some better images than those in the news article.

I saw a video of it last night on youtube I believe. Some aspects are interesting but at the same time, some are just odd. The laser pointer on the head is.....well....all I'll say is that I wouldn't want to be the guy pointing my head out of cover at a sniper so the other guy can take him out. The pepperspray launcher in the arm is cool. He says he plans on using illegal pepperspray for field use. The one thing that I thought was just all out useless was installing red and blue police LED's in the chest.....

This is the same guy (err... nut) who made an "anti-bear" suit roughly 20 years ago- going bankrupt in the process?

Bear suit video

It looks cool (kind of). But does anyone think soldiers would be willing to run around in one of those? Or even riot police?

I seriously doubt it! :D

I've just watched the Anti Grizzly video.

Where the hell did he think a suite like that would ever find a purpose???
"Hey kids, ready for our camping trip in the woods?, Let's put our anti-bear suits on!..."

Or maybe it's intended only in case of emergency.
"...Oh my gosh, it's a huge grizzly about to maul me...hold on while I just run to my truck and put on this enormous, incumberant suit! Give me 10 minutes!"

It seems a bit of a shame, because it's obviously an impressive bit of kit to withstand some of the things he put himself through in it. If only he'd used his skill for something that people might actually want... Like maybe designing some sort of protection for airdropping equipment, he might actually have made some money on it! :D

Blast Cushion

Fire Paste
.5 inch withstands 2000° C blowtorch.

And suposedly the "Angel Light"
Able to see through walls as if they were not there, people as if they had no skin and also knocks planes out of the sky in an instant.

I'm impressed!

The grizzly suit - WFT???
The new solider suit - an unlikely product.

But, the Blast Cushion?? Now that's what I'm talking about!
That is exactly the kind of thing I was refering to earlier when I said it's a shame he didn't try for something more realistic.

He estimates a cost of $300 per cushion. That's rediculously cheap! If manufactured in bulk you could cut that in half no problem. Bargain price!

I think that one's a winner! And if it's not, them someone needs their head looking at!

As for the angel light.
I'm very interested, I'd love to take that to pieces and have a nose about! :D
But I was pretty concerned about what kind of non-ionising radiation it was putting out. Anything that can stop machinary like that is obviously dangerous.
Looks like my concerns were well founded :S
God knows what he's exposed himself too!

The thing about that one is that although there are pleanty of prospective good uses for being able to see through walls, the one feature that people are going to pick up is that it could be developed as a weapon. How ironic that they were talking about a Nobel Prize for it.
When Alfred Nobel invented dynamite he didn't see the possibility of it's use in war either. :S

Interesting... I'm surprised that this guy hasn't 'disappeared' yet.

Scary stuff.

Didn't this guy confront a Grizzly in his suit and nearly get killed?

He's a bit eccentric, his testing methods unorthodox, but I have to say his inventions seem to have promise. The bear suit, maybe not so much.

But he atleast has a vested interest in his inventions success, that being his little brother being in the military, so he is really interested in saving lives, not making a buck.

And while he may come across as being "a little out there", aren't all inventors viewed as being so? Electricity, the phone, computers, no one really thought these were more than novelty items. Look how they have changed our world.

I wish this man much success.

The suit was designed for an adverage Grizzly, but the actual. testing was done with a large Kodiak bear and it's trainer.

The bear was actually scared of the suit and didn't approach for 15 mins. Then it sniffed him for a little while and the trainer said that was enough.

So he never did get swiped by a bear, but he states that he wished it would have pawed him as he felt it would have done nothing.

They did however give the bear the suit in individual pieces.
They observed the bear place it's full weight on each piece and it was unable to crush any part of the suit.

That is when they declared the suit "bear proof".
