Short version:

To buy a Realistic Imitation Firearm - Correct size and in a colour other than "neon" - you must:


Be over 18

and

Prove that you have played at least three games, over no less than two months, at a legitimate ( ie "Insured" ) Airsoft site.

( Note: This is three games over AT LEAST two months, not "within".
Think of it as three games, and a 60 day waiting period, if you like. )


The simplest way to prove you have played is to join a site.
Once you've done THAT, you have the option of also adding yourself to the national UKARA database by downloading a form from their website, and giving it to a registered retailer along with your site membership number.

Note:
Anyone over the age of 18 may buy a "2-tone" gun ( Or "Imitation Firearm"... No "Realistic". ) - One with at least 50% of the body coloured bright neon green, blue or orange... Or clear.

Many sites, ourselves included, do not allow the neon guns to be used unless covered by a shemagh or similar.
Painting them is illegal unless you are a member of a site.


It is legal for an 18+ to gift a 2-tone to an under-18... And they in turn can paint it once they have site membership.
They still may not buy a RIF though, until they are over 18.
