The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was at a local surplus shop where they had this posted. To take effective beginning of 2010. Will be out of the state by then.

Quote:
The Arkansas House has approved restrictions on the sale of realistic toy guns, taking up the issue a second time after the bill's sponsor rallied enough support to get it through.

The bill, by Rep. Fred Allen of Little Rock, passed the House on a 55-38 vote yesterday. A day earlier, the measure had failed 49-41, needing 51 votes. Allen said he brought the bill back because he'd gained the support of several members who didn't vote either way on the measure Monday.

Allen had named his bill the DeAunta Farrow Imitation Firearms Act, after the West Memphis boy who was fatally shot by a police officer who thought he was holding a gun. Allen agreed to remove the boy's name from the bill after complaints from the family, who dispute police accounts that say DeAunta was holding the toy weapon.

The boy was shot to death in 2007 and a civil lawsuit is pending.

Quote:
There are exceptions in the bill. Those include bb guns, paint ball guns and pellet firing air guns, or any brightly colored toy gun, so there's no chance for confusion.

Quote:
The committee agreed, moving it to the full House. Representative Allen worked with Wal-mart to get their support. That includes the law not taking effect until January 2010. Allowing retailers more time to get rid of inventory that falls under the ban.

You can read the full bill.

I am assuming as long as there is an orange tip it is ok? Like I said should be moved by then.

Thanks!

It's been a federal law for a long time that toy guns need to have orange tips at the very least. It kind of sounds like they just took a federal law and passed it at the state level.

This is knee jerk reaction to a horrible event. Do not fix the real problem just stamp it out. This is going beyond the Federal. I have seen BB guns that shoot a metal BB look just as real as an airsoft gun. This would mean not being able to receive from Matt w/o breaking the law. It could be considered life like and misinterpreted as a live firearm. I remember when the kid got shot 18+ years back when the first laser tag first came out. Those guns look nothing like a live firearm but people were yelling about banning them.

It does make you wonder that, a few years from now, will we be able to parade down Peachtree with guns,
or even run around and do a Colony sweep?

These may well be the golden years!

My father has been in law enforcement for 40 years. He is retiring this year. His worst fear has always been that a child would accidentally get killed because of a toy gun.

I have NO problem with children NOT being allowed to play with realistic weapons. And I am NOT conservative in any way, because I grew up playing with guns that were CRAZY realistic.

I was also a lot wiser than some of the kids today. I am going to be a teacher, and I feel that children should not play with realistic guns as toys. Guns are NOT toys.

That is the problem around here in Arkansas. SO MANY parents are NOT teaching their children about firearms. I know several parents who are great with teaching their children about firearms, but TOO MANY parents are ignorant and are not practicing gun safety.

So, should children play with toy weapons? No. It this bill okay? I don't care. Every time someone tries to pass a law regarding guns people throw a fit and talk about Hitler. How ignorant. Why in the WORLD would you NOT want guns registered. If you have a gun, register it. If you have a car, register it. If you are NOT a criminal, then what are you worried about? It's all about fear. Ask ANY expert who studies these issues. Republican, Democrat, ask either of them. This isn't a real issue. It's a distraction. It's about making you IGNORE the important issues.

Because no one is going to come take your guns. Get over yourselves. It's not even a REAL issue.

You know what is a real issue in Arkansas. We are #4 in Poverty in the USA. We have over 6,000 Homeless in our area alone! That is an issue. Which effects us all.

Lets stop talking about gay marriage, and gun laws, and all that crap. Lets start taking action to FEED the hungry, get them the medicine they need. Get them better jobs, and teach them skills. Bring them hope.

That is how we make the world a better place. That is what I am doing to make the world a better place. That is why I am doing so much charity work with the local Food Pantry. THAT is a real issue. I won't argue. This is all I will say about it. But I am all for children NOT playing with realistic guns. Just in case.

PS: Check the FBI stats, because you have a better chance of dying of Heart Disease than you do of someone breaking into your house to kill you. So, I don't wanna hear about your "self defense rights" because that has nothing to do with it. Man, ignorance is rampant. You don't have to agree. I simply do not care. I am not trying to debate or offend. I just get frustrated when there is SO MUCH we can do to make the world a better place, then we end up wasting time on abortion or gay rights or the Octomom. Come on!

The real issue I think, in my humble opinion, that we should talk about is poverty, and how to change the poverty rate. It is difficult, fighting poverty, it will take time and change, but we can make the world a better place. It is a tough issue, tough and multi layered. But, we can DO SOMETHING about it. Each of us. That is the real issue: Poverty. Right now over 6,000 people in Arkansas alone will go without a meal today. We can change it! We can make a difference. Everyone on this board. We can do it together.

Let me step DOWN from my soap box now. LOL

And according to this little thread here...
