The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Was online getting some names tapes for a jacket when I noticed something odd.

The store was selling MARPAT name tapes in sets of Three.
1x US MARINES
2x Surname.

The site briefly mentioned the third nametape was for the BDU trousers..

Whereabout is the placement of that nametape..
Any Ideas?

the militay (all branches) have always done 3 name tapes per BDU uniform. x2- Last Name & x1- Branch of Service.

On the BDU blouse (top), you would have the Name Tape with your last name over the Right- Breast Pocket & the Name Tape with your Branch of Service over your Left- Breast Pocket.
the 3rd Name Tape with your Last Name on it goes on your Trousers over the Right- Rear Pocket

Now just an additional note on the placement of the Name Tapes, typically with BDU's the Name Tapes are Centered directly over the pocket. But now with the new "ACU-Cut" BDU's its done slightly different. Standard BDU's have there pockets straight up & down, as any normal pocket would be. However "ACU-Cut" BDU's are different. The ACU-Cut BDU & even the new USMC MARPAT BDU's have their breast pockets angled just slightly.

Most would think this only applies to the Army's new ACU BDU's, but in the last year or so, just about all BDU patterns are available in the ACU-Cut, everything from standard 3-color woodland, Multi-cam, and even the Marine MARPAT print (civilian type print, not the actual USMC MARPAT print; and yes there is a difference between the civilian and USMC MARPAT prints).
Now with ACU-Cut BDU you would have the Name Tape mounted Centered over the pocket but Straight Across, NOT mounted directly over the pocket which would cause the name tape to be angled just as the breast pocket is.

However with Marine MARPAT BDU's its just the opposite, you would still mount them centered and just above the breast pocket, so on the MARPATs they name tape would be angled.

I am an active airsoft player, actually I am a Team Commander in my Airosft Community/League and this is a common thing that is asked by the airsoft newbs.

Hope this was some help. I know where a bunch of good pics can be found if you are interested. Sometimes seeing it makes more sense then trying to describe it in a forum post.

The 2nd nametape goes over one of the rear pockets on the BDU trousers. I believe it's the right pocket but I could be mistaken. We in the Army always say marines do this so sailors will remember the name of their prom dates. :D

Not all branches Tommyboy, definitely not the Army. I just retired so unless it's changed since yesterday, I think this is a practice exclusive to the USMC

by brother-in-law was National Guard and he had his name on his trousers, and I know all the Rangers we ran drills with had it done. maybe it was just those who I have encountered in the army, or atleast the ones I have noticed.
and i know the Navy does this aswell

I can only say what I know to be regulation, and that is the Army does not do this. Now then, as for being called bottom bitch by a civilian who has never served, either through a lack of willingness or lack of mental or physical wherewithall, I can say with a certainty I do not like that. I didn't spend 14 years in the Infantry, 3 tours in combat, get wounded and retire to be questioned or insulted by the likes of you.

My brother told me the moon was made of green cheese.

But I checked on the internet, and it's really not. :(

Fraz, the simple answer is that the third name tape CAN go on your trousers. It all depends on what branch, or even specific SOP that you're trying to emulate. Figure out what you want your costume to be based on and check the regs that are specific for that, as each group has very different rules.

But since this isn't for real military service, just for costuming or airsofting, stick it wherever you want!

Tell them Spat said it was ok. You have my permission.

:)

OK.... First off, this was just a bit of joking & fun. My Dad was Army, I have many friends who are Army, one of my best friends is Army and just came out of Iraq. And on that similar note... my Grandfathers were Navy, one of which was held as a POW by the Japanese during WWII, and anyone who knows about how the Japanese treated thier POWs knows this was a horrible thing.
My Step-Dad is retired Navy, as for many friends of mine, which all of these Navy and Army friends I know, I met while I was Active-Duty Marine Corps.
And though I was severely injured before the war starter; either Iraq or Afghan, I have seen my share of action, considering what my MOS was. I have wounded, broken, beaten to hell and have burried far too many of my friends for anyone to question me......

It was a simple joke made in jest, jokes made between someone from one branch to someone from another branch. If you can't handle that, then I am sorry for you.
I thought when I said in my original post.....
"the Rangers we ran drills with"
would have made it clear that I did serve, and if I wasnt clear enough, then that is my fault. But before you question someone like that, speak to them in such a way, maybe you should have just asked, or even looked at my profile, where it clearly says in the Occupation you would clearly see it say: USMC: Retired
And since they War(s) started, I have tried to return to active duty more times then I can count. the fact that my friends... my brothers... my Marine Family, becuase that is what we are, a family, are out there fighting & dying and I am sitting living a farily good life just isnt right. And if it wasnt for the fact that I broke 3 vertabre and have severe nerve damage in my spine. Have undergone 4 spinal cord surgeries and 1 nuero-brain surgery. And almost died on 3 sperate occassions while I was in active, then Yeah they would take me back. But I am unable in anyway able to perform my duty as it would require, and I would gladly give just about anything to be able to go back to the Corps, but I cant. So I support in my own way.

Obviously this can get to become a very heated discussion, and before it continues I will leave it at that.
If you took offense, I am sorry to you for that. It was just a joke made in fun with no harm intended.
So lets just leave it at that, shall we... before this gets out of hand any further.

Sure I accept your apology, and I offer mine in return. It simply struck me as strange when you referenced an acquaintance in the National Guard rather than your own experience. I mean no insult to a fellow serviceman, and understand how things can be misunderstood online. I was simply trying to make the point earlier that it is forbidden to sew anything at all on the ACU uniform according to AR 670-1, but I know that USMC do still sew name tapes on their uniforms, trousers included. I am sorry that you were somehow injured before you had a chance to fight, and I hope you enjoy retirement the absolute best your circumstances allow.

thats the thing about chat forums, you cant hear the tone of what someone is saying. and as I said I do see where the missunderstanding can come in. I'm sorry...your sorry... all is well now.
I will say this, though I would give just about anything to be out there with my fellow Marines in the sandbox kicking ass, being a "Disabled Retirey" allows me all the time wih my family. Hell my benefits alone allow me to stay at home and raise my son as one of those few "Stay at home Dads", and I have a beautiful baby girl due here in anytime now.
When I say I would give almost anything to be out there in the sandbox and back with my Marines, thats one thing I dont think I could give up, the time I get with my wife, son and soon baby girl. Even though my son can drive me absolutely F>>>>>ing CRAZY half the time, I would rather him drive me nuts all day long then not see him for upto 2 years at a time.

But all is well. And as we Marines say........
SEMPER FIDELIS! for those who dont know, that means "Always Faithful. Though its a Marine saying, these days, all of who serve or are serving, I think it applies to all. We must stick together.
