The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Post subject: G&P: PR firing issues
PostPosted: Mon Jan 12, 2009 8:36 pm

So I just got my G&P PR kit a few months back, and when the converstion build was done and I went to fire it for the first time it shot the BB's all over the place. The only place the BB's didnt go was in a straight line.
I know what the problem is, its caused from the BB counter insert that connects into the barrel. The 2 small sensors on each side of the barrel are knocking the BB's out of whack when the gun is shot.
Now the obvious way I can see to correct the issue is one of 3 things;
option 1- remove the sensors completely, which would cause the BB counter be useless.
option 2- run a new inner-barrel in the gun, which would run over & pass the sensors, again this would cause the BB counter to become useless.
or finally, opion 3- try to break just the glass tips of he sensors allowing enough room for the BB's to pass un-ubstruckted but trying to keep the sensors themselves intact so that the BB counter does still function.

Now, I should also note at this point in time, I have not yet replaced the stock inner-barrel from the TM Thompson when I did the conversion. So the inner-barrel doesnt run the full length of the outer-barrel, from where the inner-barrel ends there is still about 1.5- 2inches of space open between the end of the inner-barrel and the sensors themselves.
So I was also wondering if running a new inner-barrel all the way to where it would meet up flush to the sensors make any difference?

Please, any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to have to remove the sensors and lose the function of haveing the BB Counter.
Thank you for any and all assistance.
Tommy

Sure it's not over-hop causing the beebs to catch the top of the outer barrel on the way out, as opposed to the sensors being the problem?

the Hop-Up is adjusted perfectly. I am an advid Airsofter so the first thing I checked was the hop-up. But the way the BB's are shooting the hop-up couldnt be the issue. If it was the hop-up the BB's would be firing off, but they would be pretty consistant as to where they were going. This is definately the sensors causing an obstruction.
perhaps I should have mentioned initially about the hop-up not being the issue.
But thanks for the input, please any other suggestions would be great, keep em' coming.....

On my light gate there's some movemet to the optic bulbs. You 'might' try to adjust them some by hot gluing once they've pushed further outwards. Not sure that would work, but seems like it's worth a try.

No worries chap, take it you've also tried with the hop off? Only reason I'm pushing the issue is that if it is the hop that's off I agree there would normally at least be a consistent pattern to the trajectory (all other factors being normal), but if it's clipping the outer barrel it'll send the beebs all over the shop anyway. :)

Good luck!

I have no clue about such stuff.

However, I'd suggest a combination of extending the inner barrel and moving the light gate outwards a touch. Gets rid of both concerns and might extend you range/accuracy a leeetle bit too.

Can the light gate be cited elsewhere, maybe to count the movement of one of the electrical parts?
The count could still be accurate depending on which part you use...

So I took the time and tore-down my Pulse Rifle last night and did some mods to it. I installed a longer inner-barrel that comes to the sensors, this giving me a bit better range/accuracy. But I tried to pull the sensors out abit, used a few different things to try and get them serperated further to allow the BB's to pass through more easily, but nothing I did worked too well. Nothing I tried kept the sensors apart, they would eventually pull back to thier original posistion, being too close and obstructing the BB's path.
So i resulted to taking my dremel and filing down the tips of the sensors, hoping this wouldnt effect the actual sensors and still allowing it to be functional. sadly however, after test firing my PR here a bit ago, it solved the shooting issues I was having, but it did infact ruin the sensors. so the BB counter doesnt fully function now.
I knew it was a risk I was taking when I did it. A small price to pay I suppose.

But if anyone out there knows of someone who sells or makes new sensors, please feel free to point me in the direction.

Maybe Matsuo could help you, no guarantees, but as I understand he is an M41 guru. Good luck man.

Ooouch! Sorry to hear that. Before filing the light gate sensors, I would have tried such things as hot gluing previous mentioned. If hot gluing didn't work, I woudl have used JB QUIK to hold down the repositioned sensors. Too late now (perhaps for others who are having the same problem).

Afraid you're not gonna find solutions to these problems from anyone but G&P or alternately, an electronics parts supplier. Keyword to check: light gate. As for G&P, the next time I speak to the sales rep. I'll try to inquire on replacement parts.

was the price I had to pay. tried hot glue with no luck. and me and JB Weld are not the bestest of friends :x
I knew there was a good chance this could happen, so I am not too broken hearted about it. And I am sure at the very least I can find new sensors to replace the ones I filed down. I am sure there is something similar if not the same out there.
I have an airsoft buddy who is a direct dealer for G&P, so I can check with him about a replacement. And though I am not in anyways an electrical-literate person.
However...one of best friends is, and I have no doubt that he could build a complete replacement given the time. And when he comes home from Germany here later this year I can have him do it. He still has 6months left in Germany before the Army will send him home. Pretty shitty they are making his unit wait another six months before they let them come home, they just spent 21months in Iraq, rotated them back to their primary station in Germany but since they are rotating back to the states in 6months they arent even allowing them any leave. I mean...Sh*t they just spent almost 2years in a War Zone, and the best they are offering is a 4day weekend ONLY IF any family comes to Germany to visit them. Thats just F*^ked up.... sorry for the little rant, but I am sure I am not the only one who thinks this is messed up.

Come to think of it ... I believe I am a G&P dealer ... I have an account with G&P and they sell to me direct and they don't do retail sales, so I guess that makes me a dealer.

While we may be a G&P reseller, we have not yet had the need to ask for spare parts. My gut is .. without asking them .. spares are hard to come by from G&P.

I think most dealers who have had spares may have taken 1 or 2 kits out of the carton, and use those for spare parts sales.

Since we order only as much as we have buyers, we don't do that so we don't have spares.

I will check though as I mentioned the next time I call the sales rep. Short of a spare light gate, your remaining option would be to try and locate those sensors at an electronics component place. There may be some on-line.

Best of luck~! ;)
