Post subject: | Airsoft firing internals? |
I am often getting emails asking me if my pulse rifle counter boards will interface to the internals of an Airsoft. Well, I have no clue. Now, Archangel has very kindly provided me with an ammo counter and light gate from one, which is great. I can now work on methods for interfacing to that light gate, which should be easy enough. However, people are asking me if it can control the firing, so when the counter reaches 00 it cuts out the firing system so it no longer tries to fire. I have no clue what that portion of it entails. So, I was wondering, if anyone with a half-assembled Airsoft could help me out here. I could do with someone with enough electronics skill to identify components and how they are wired together (nothing too technical) and who can take some pretty pictures for me. From that I should be able to work out if it's possible to fully integrate a counter board with the Airsoft gubbins. |

Surely you could make the airsoft battery run the counter, putting the counter in series between the battery and motor, and have a cut off switch linked to the motor triggered by the "00" and reset with the mag insertion? That way no mods to the gun are needed and no seperate battery is needed for the counter. (I hope that made sence!) |

That kind of thing is what I want to do - however my current level of knowledge precludes the fact that there is even a motor ![]() I need to know what is there before I can come up with ideas like that. That's why I'm here, so I can find out that there is a motor, and what kind of battery it is, etc. |

I suggest keeping it simple, and run it off the 9v battery. Make it a drop-in replacement to the existing counter board. (screw holes + counter digits line-up, Mag switch in the same location) The more friendly you make it as an easy swap out / upgrade, the more interest you'll get. Just have a relay to open the trigger switch when "00". No sound effects/speakers/grenade effects. My two cents. |

That's the aim, yes. I'd like to avoid a relay though, so I need to know what the firing system involves, and that means someone taking some pictures of it all. |

Pretty much a motor with a switch in series. Nothing fancy on the thompson airsoft rifles. |

Sounds easy, but I still need pictures and more information. In particular:
I would like know if I will be telling people "Cut the red wire and connect it to here", or if I can provide a system where you unplug the batter from the existing system, plug it in to my board, and plug my board into the existing system - no cutting or messing needed. That would be the ultimate goal, but I can't determine that without more data. |

Airsoft Motor connector is a small female lug: ![]() not a lot of space in the pistol grip. Very tight..... Battery connector is a male tamiya: ![]() The airsoft battery can vary. Could be Nicad, NiMh, LiPo, LiFe Voltage can vary from 7v to 12v, and the mah can vary. The battery that comes with the Matrix/Snow Wolf is a POS, and many chuck it. It is underpowered. |

I'm starting to understand how this all fits together now. Got some great info now, thanks guys. Time to start designing I guess... |

I now know how to connect an AirSoft BB sensor to a Pulse Rifle board. It's pretty simple. This is only for if you want to tie in the counting, it doesn't tie in the trigger or anything. All you need is 2 resistors. Attachment:

Well, I'm male (or I was last time I checked), so I guess I can't give birth. ![]() |
