Post subject:  Extended Barrel - Airsoft Thompspn - Hero PR

Guys,

Me again...

I am picking up momentum in relation to a full metal working Airsoft PR...

There's an indication that with Matsuo Aluminium shrouds, a real SPAS cage and SD Studios parts for the barrel shroud etc I will need to obtain an extended barrel for the Thonpson...

Now... I don't have an Airsoft Thompson yet... I was aiming for a Tokyo Marui one...

But where the blazes to I get an extended barrel?

Cheers for any advice...

there isn't one made for it ,best bet would be getting one from the g&p kit 2nd hand or getting one machined

Thanks for the info...

As Blackadder once said: "I think the phrase rhymes with 'clucking bell'..."

If anyone knows of one anywhere... Please let me know!

Most airsofters use a SW or G&P PR barrel as that is what they usually have as a base. For display only PR's people usually use an SD barrel or a steel tube of the right diameter. You may need to come up with a combo of the two. No one to my knowledge makes an aftermarket airsoft PR barrel.

I would source a steel or aluminum tube that fits into the front of the Thompson and cut to length. You will then need to come up with a system of mounting the Spas to this.

Ain't this fun?

Ah - So is a snow wolf barrel the correct length?

Yes and no. Yes if you have the correct mounting block for it. If you don't then you have to make one.

The SW barrel is just an aluminum tube with a notch at one end for a set screw retainer. It inserts into an aluminum block that inserts into the Thompson receiver. That block is held in place by screws that secure the two triangles to the shrouds. I think this block could easily be 3D printed for airsofters building their own PR's from the ground up.

As a matter of fact, a guy at work is getting his own 3D printer next month and I work with a lot of CAD designers at the Corning........

Like you say... Ain't this fun?!

I was contemplating getting a SW... Then using it as a basis to build a hero around (i.e. using the Thompson and grip... And whatever else suited...).

But even the mounting block is tied into the triangles on the shrouds (which are moulded on the HCG shrouds)...

If you started to produce that part, you might be a saviour!

The only problem with producing that part would be the differences in width and shroud thickness between the available shrouds. The SW is just thin plastic, the resin shrouds would be a bit thicker, and I have no clue how thick the HGC shrouds are. So making one block to fit all would be difficult. Of course a smaller block could be made with extra side plates to sandwich between the block and shroud to get a proper fit....

If I do try to get these parts made it's a few months off at least. He doesn't have his 3D printer yet. Then I would have to acquire an SW airsoft block and have it 3D modeled and then printed. In the meantime I'll think of some ideas and see what I come up with.

Any other ideas for printed PR parts you can PM me. When I have more info I'll start my own thread as I don't want this to derail the original thread here.

My solution, retains the standard Thomp barrel with an extension. Spas cage hangs off the Thomp's handguard mounting bar.

Ah - Thanks Sidewinder... That's interesting... I'd like to see how it all went together? Any build pics you could share please? And what did you use for the extension?

I had to remove the front sight which is part of the barrel molding, which I did on my lathe. The extension is just a piece of round ally bar lathed to shape and drilled out so it fits in the end of the Thomp barrel.
Only other pics I have (ignore the G36 rail). M1A1 is a Cyma TM clone, grip, stock, 10hole vent is Matsuo's, Spas cage and grip are real steel.

I went this route because it gives a more screen accurate look than the block-and-tube adapters.

Never did get round to fitting shrouds etc.

I'd no idea Matsuo did the 10 hole vent... Is that steel?

I'd love to know how you suspended the SPAS cage... And fitted it all together...

What's the end block? SD STUDIOS? Did you cut the SPAS cage yourself?

Looks great mate.

Had the parts for years, vent/stock are steel.

Spas to M1A1 - two M6 bolts up through top of Spas and (through 7mm spacers) into tapped holes in M1A1 handguard bar.

Block is an old style SD I think yeah. Cut the cage myself.

Amen to that. That is my next route for next build.

Now only if Marui did an EBB thompon with 95 round mags.....
