While looking through a couple of airsoft sites, I came across these two items:

* M203 Upper Handguard in Olive Drab
* M203 Upper Handguard in Black

The black version of the handguard is cheaper, but the Olive Drab one should actually be colored OD Green plastic! You wouldn't need the grip or the sight, but that barrel vent would be the perfect upgrade to any Aliens Flamethrower kit in which you want to see hollow vents.

What do you guys think?

Sweet! Nice find!

Almost makes me want to build one now. Like I don't have enough to do. :)

Whoa! That's the part!

Hey Alex,

Maybe I'm still a little wet behind the ears when it comes to the Aliens flamethrower, but was this already a known item, or did you just happen to discover it now? I was only familiar with the source for the carry handle -- that being the upper receiver from an M16.

I may just have to build one now, but like Russ says... like I don't already have enough to do.

It was a known item. It's just the first decent one I've come across that's affordable. As for projects... you know you want this project too! ;)

Oh sure... after only a couple minutes of poking around I was finding plenty of references to the M203. My attention had obviously been elsewhere -- like my pulse rifle, my smart gun, and my sentry gun. ;)

So now my question is, do we know whether these shrouds you posted links for are truly scaled 1:1, or are they slightly smaller as a couple of other posts eluded to?

As far as I've been able to glean, the original M203 shroud was also made of plastic, or a plastic composite -- so unlike the SPAS-12 cage and its airsoft/gas counterparts, this aftermarket shroud would make an ideal source part if truly in 1:1 scale. :D

Also, Stefan (Bug Stomper) had this to say in another related post...

Quote:
Quote:If you are looking to build a flamer you should go with an airsoft M203 shroud. The original shroud has a cutout on the bottom of the left side that isn't present on the flamer. There are airsoft/modelkit M203s that don't have this cutout so it's likely these were used for the original.
I think you may be right Alex... I believe I want this project too! It'll probably be the death of me.

I'm pretty sure it's 1:1 scale and accurate to the original real steel part. Personally, I'd make my Flamer in OD green instead of Brown Bess (I just don't like it as a color) so the OD Green M203 shroud would be my preference. For the hardcore accuracy nut, the black version would probably be prefered as that is closer to what the Screen Used prop had.
