Hi guys, it's been a long time since I last posted here and my Pulse Rifle had to be put on hold until I found a new job and got over a case of apathy, but couldn't be bothered, I eventually saved up enough fundage so that I could finish it, even though its been three years in the making and it had gathered an impressive amount of dust just sitting there on the shelf. Needless to say I got a little depressed at it lying in such a state that I decided to get back in the saddle and at least get the grenade launcher working.
Anyway, the whole point of my post is that I managed to find a Tanaka M870 a while ago and now I've started to prep the SPAS 12 cage to install the shotgun into it. So I stripped and cleaned the Tanaka M870 as this was also quite dusty, then eventually put it all back together again. Now with no shells loaded into it it cycles fine, the sound it makes is just sweet!, but the minute I put a shell in the loading tube and then pump the handle the shell jams, even though when I manually load the shell directly into the shotgun everything works fine. I can't quite figure out what the shell is getting stuck on!?
And No, after I had stripped and cleaned the shotgun I didn't have any parts left over when I put the shotgun back together again, that didn't happen this time. :wink:

If anyone has experienced this problem before or at least knows how to fix it, I'm sure you guys are the people to ask. 8)

My Remmington 870 would jam when cycling shells through it.

Eventually found that one tiny little spring-loaded clip just inside the ejection port had jammed 'open', so that shells were angled in the tube as they were cycled into position.

Tried to un-jam it, but the bloody thing was stuck fast. :|

Well I know it's been almost a year since I started this thread but I got a reply, a couple of days ago, to a PM I sent from Pepperpete, thanks Pepperpete for replying better late than never eh :lol: , and I may as well share with the rest of you how I fixed my problem and to show how far my Pulse Rifle has came. And I apologize for Necro posting or whatever forum taboo I may have broke so go easy on me please. :wink:

The problem was two small plastic plugs that held, what I think is called the shell loading chamber in place. These two plastic plugs came loose and wouldn't sit in place causing the shells to get stuck at an angle and not sliding into place from the loading tube into the barrel when cycling the shotgun. So instead of using super glue to set these plugs in place I replaced them with two small screws and that's held it nicely in place.

Here's a pic of the two screws, the pic is looking into the bottom of the shotgun at where you load the shells.

Anyway it took a while but my build went from this bunch of mainly plastic parts,

And eventually became this, the basic model. Most plastic parts replaced with metal parts, no electronic counter, no working grenade launcher and with some repairs to the plastic shroud and no paint job yet,

It took me a while but I managed to find a Tanaka M870, it was worth the wait cause I then had a working grenade launcher, eventually fixing a few teathing problems it now cycles fine, probably does need a little oil or WD40 in some areas.

Then a lick of paint and some TLC the nearly finished product that I am rather fond of,

The box magazine is a modified M16/M4 5000 round box mag with auto-winder, though I had to ditch part of the shroud to accomodate the box mag but I still think it holds true to traditional M41A's out there, only more unique, even though some at my local airsoft site I went to disagree and say I destroyed a Thompson and a Tanaka M870 to make this but I don't care, I got and built what I set out to do, all be it four years later.
There's still a few bits and bobs to take care of like the stock, it's in a fixed position either fully retracted or fully extended, haven't figured out a way of making it adjustable and be able to lock into place, yet. I had an idea of accomodating telescopic sights into the shroud, a bit like what an MG36 has and installing a bi-pod to the front to give it more of a support rifle feel to it. One problem is the thing is quite heavy and add the Tanaka grenade launcher to the mix and it weighs a ton and the thought of carrying it about during a game at an airsoft site is not appealing and adding more parts is gonna make it more heavier and I'll probably need a steady-cam harness just to be able to run with the thing!!
I'd like to source an ammo counter that will do what I want, though a mate of mine gave me an idea using an Arduino microprocessor board, a seven segment three digit display, an IR optical sensor and RF ID chips, I just need to figure out how to program that Arduino board and then its GAME ON! 8)

They're fine on support weapons, but when some twat rocks up with an MP5 and a 3000 round dual-C-mag, and not a shred of irony...

i dunno i find that relativley sane compared to a p90 with a box mag, 11.1v lipo and an upgraded highspeed gearbox

Yeah, last event up north I went to, This guy was carrying one of those little TM AK Spetz's, with an RPK drum mag, and two more looped into his webbing.

I don't usually take pleasure when kit goes boom, but when I heard his piston strip I did allow myself a little grin before we slotted him.

The point I'm getting at is that Box mags have no place on an AEG unless you're an utter spoon. [I do have a drum mag for a skorpion, but that's just because it's hilarious. I'd never field it.]

AEG = automatic electric gun
covered in this section is support weapons which use drum and box mags
meaning your better off saying drum mags have no place on rifles and sub machine guns
as for piston stripping due to using a box mag thats more likely due to him running a high speed setup without reinforcing gears and pistons

I'm aware what an AEG is, but support weapons are usually called support weapons.

Thank you for the exceptionally pedantic correction however, I will definitely endeavour to use the correct terminology in future.

[Also, I never suggested he'd strip a piston by using a drum mag. just that it happened.]

I reckon having the bipod attached to the front block would top it off nicely.
Or possibly one of those RIS vertical grips with the retractable bipod legs mounted on the pump?

Like the Gripod? I think that'd look really nice on this. It's really nice to see a more updated "combat ready" look.

I see this as sort of like the l86 to the Pulsies l85. The box mag/bipod make it an awesome and practical specialist weapon [because you can't really airsoft a Smartgun.] [[Although, I'm sure rich would love to Airsoft a smartgun. and will one day try.]]

You gotta love peoples respect or lack of, when it comes to box mags on an airsoft gun! :lol: Yes, I know 5000 rounds is totally excessive and I have to admit I have emptied it on a couple of occassions only because I needed to know it would work, plus I got carried away and went a bit trigger happy.
From the start I had wanted to build a support version of the M41A hence the box mag et al, cause I just loved using my mates M249 that I got a lone of one day cause my AUG decided to die on me and from that day I was hooked on support weapons and I couldn't source an M60.
If someone turned up to an Airsoft games day I was at, with and used a fully functioning Smartgun I would faint on the spot then die from laughing, not from disrespect, I think it would be legendery! You just don't see that kind of hilarity anymore because people take airsoft skirmishes that bit to seriously. A good airsoft games day, in my book, is one I walk away from with a big cheesey cheshire cat grin on my face. :D

Hey, it's got a bipod. The box mag makes it a support gun :) it's still amazing work!
