The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Ok, so I'm looking at the M870 in the PX as well as a set of SPAS parts, and I've gone ahead and e-mailed Phil S about the PR parts. While I was looking around, however, another question came up - Matsuo makes a stock mech but I've read good things about DATA's. Is one better than the other?

Purchased a G&P kit from ShooterCity Airsoft, it came this week (excellent service, and I got a discount!) and I separated the parts I don't need and partially assembled the shroud... I can see there's going to be some fitment done to the kit, but nothing terrible.

The stock and SPAS cages I don't need, I'm not sure if I want to hold onto them or offer them up for cheap for someone else's project... I've already got all the parts for a 100% functional model in minus the barrel/SPAS connection block and a gas tank for the M870.

That said - the G&P instructions were really quite simple and good... After all the griping I've read on-line about how bad they are, the pictures were very step-by-step and easy to follow...

They must have improved them then. :D

Care to upload one for us to see?

Here's a sample of one of the less tricky assemblies!

That's the same as the old set, so they've probably not changed them, just you've worked them out a bit easier than some of us did. :)

I put my original G&P PR together in about 2 hours using their instructions. I never saw any problem with them either to be honest.

As for stock locking mechanisms. I have Data's and it is solid as a rock. Holds the stock in place perfectly etc. I have not seen a Matsuo one so can't comment. Perhaps someone who has one can chime in.

Cheers

Darren

I had a few problems such as this pic, which doesn't show that the slider is off set, so can be fitted the wrong way around.

I spotted this when/after I built mine, so pointed it out in my guide.

Yeah, I guess I just figured it out... Then again, I'm used to assemblies that include zero words, arrows, or numbers entirely because the factory didn't include the assembly instructions for a drill press or milling machine.

Update:

I've acquired all the components minus a replacement barrel set for the Maruzen M870 shotgun, which is inbound. The G&P barrel is far too large for Phil S.' triangle, so I'm going to have to have it lathed down. I'm also going to go ahead and change the position of the light gate. I've seen Data's solution, but I think I'm going to go ahead and modify the barrel so that the light gate is hidden inside the vent section - far enough to avoid modification of the barrel assembly inside the receiver, and still enough room to cram a LiPo battery inside.

Speaking of batteries, I ran into a slight complication - the Phil S. stock doesn't permit the routing of the wires through the Thompson's old rear sight holes. Instead, I drilled some holes on to side of the receiver and ran the wires through that way. Much easier and much less painful than trying to machine out the holes on the stock.

Cutting the SPAS cage has been easy, but it looks like the grip itself will present some issues. I'm going to end up fabricating a custom method of attaching the cage to the shroud, because it looks like the easy pre-made solution (which, at the time I couldn't afford) can be improved upon. We'll see how good the crack I'm smoking is.

Where have people been putting the Maruzen gas tank? I can't seem to find a suitable position as yet with the G&P shroud kit - I think I can squeeze a LiPo either into the shroud or the cage but the tank continues to puzzle the heck out of me!
