Post subject: Pulse Rifle Question - G&P and then what?
PostPosted: Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:03 pm

Country: United States
I was picking through the forums about building a functioning/skirmishable pulse rifle and it seems like the G&P pulse rifle is a decent ready-bake option, but it's mostly plastic and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Using real parts seems like a solid way to go, but I haven't been able to source any real SPAS parts, and I'm not sure what's even out there at the moment (repro parts wise) as most of the websites I've found have been horribly out of date (a la 2005 or 2007).

Right now, bypassing the G&P option, it looks like the following is a sensible way to go about this:
-Marui or CYMA Thompson (airsoft stores)
-Tanaka M870 or Maruzen M500 shotgun (airsoft stores)
-Shrouds (are the Matsuo ones able to fit a counter mech and battery easily?)
-SPAS 12 cage and grip (source?)
-Noble's mag base (trying to acquire one or two of these, talking with him now)
-Thompson adapter block to attach the SPAS cage to the Marui Thompson (source?)
-8-hole vent and barrel attachment (Phil S)
-Stock (Phil S)
-Stock locking mechanism (Matsuo, I believe?)
-Metal end cap (I saw this on M41a and have seen others since - who makes these?)
-New pistol grip (are these ready made or do I need to modify my own?)

Any thoughts on where I can acquire the parts I'm lost on? Sorry if this is a pesky question, but I'm rather new to the Pulse Rifle game and trying to find out who makes what from what time period is rather frustrating.

The G&P kit is probably the best way to go. The shrouds are quite thick and easily skirmishable. Probably more so than the vac formed ones that you can get.

Upgrading it is another matter,

On mine I have made the following upgrades

From Phil S I got

Metal vents
Metal Triangle support
Metal Front block
Metal Stock

From the classified section on this board I got a Real Spas cage and grip. You need to be here a little while and make a few posts to get access to that part of the board.

I bought a Maruzen M870 gas shotgun.

Either the Cyma or a Marui Thompson will do fine.

There is a lot of modding required to get all these parts to go together however.

The maruzen shot gun needs to be completely stripped and modded. The spas cage needs to be cut in the correct places as well as shortening the original grip.

To connect the launcher section to the thompson there are two ways I am aware of. First is the adapter that member Tommin used to do (M41.com) or there is the custom block that member DATA does. The latter also incorporates the light gauge counter from the G&P kit. You have to remember that with that kit as soon as you replace the front triangle there will be no where for the light gauge to go ( this is what counts the pellets and makes the counter go down), Data's block nicely gets around this problem but does required further mods to be made to the inner barrel of the thompson.

My barrel is the original G&P one but turned down in order to fit the Phil S front triangle.

The stock, if upgraded, will need modifying in order to either work with the existing G&P locking mechanism or a new mechanism (which DATA also does) will be needed. The stock lock mechanism on the G&P kit is it's weakest point really.

For the shotgun also you will need a custom gas tank, unless you go with the Tanaka version of course. DATA also does these. (he's very industrious)

There's probably more that I cant think of right now but to cut a long story short, it is not an easy or quick undertaking to upgrade to a fully functioning airsoft Pulse Rifle but well worth it if you do :)

Cheers

Darren

 -SPAS 12 cage and grip (source?) There's usually someone selling them on the Base PX forum section*

-Thompson adapter block to attach the SPAS cage to the Marui Thompson (source?) Tom at M41a.com has offered them in the past, not sure if he's doing any at the moment.

-Stock locking mechanism (Matsuo, I believe?) Yup.

-Metal end cap (I saw this on M41a and have seen others since - who makes these?) If you mean the end of the grenade launcher, known as the GL front block, Phil S does sell one AFAIK.

-New pistol grip (are these ready made or do I need to modify my own?) Matsuo has offered those in the past.

*The Base PX forum is on here, but only available to members who've been here a little while and joined in the forums a bit. :)

Edit: Beaten to it. :D

Wow, lightning fast reply! So it looks like buying the G&P kit and then stripping it down/adding to it is the best way to go? Sounds good. Now to find one...

DATA sounds like a godsend, I'll have to get with him after I get further along on this endeavor and get replacement parts sorted out.

I appreciate your assistance, gentlemen, time to get cracking!

My parts are mostly from Matsuo - Shrouds, vents (10 hole), stock. The shrouds need the spaces cutting for the counter & electrics, but they are lovely.
Tommin adapter, Maruzen M870, Marui Thompson, real SPAS parts... and a set of real M1A1 magazines.
Got one of the highly skilled guys here doing the bits I'm too cack-handed to manage.

SPAS parts are available from a member here. He has a continually updating thread in the PX, for when you get access. AFAIK, they are brand new, very clean and smelling of gun oil :)

DATA is pretty damn fantastic when it comes to the precision engineering of formidable weaponry!!
Thanks to him, we have some of the most impressive fully functional Airsofts on the market!!

So they are... Hmmm. Still, it looks like a custom build one with mostly real parts will end up being the superior option, especially given my past experience with ARES/STAR products.

My Mag base and insert only fit the G+P kit.

As for the barrel, I recommend keeping the G+P barrel or extending/modding the Marui/Cybergun one.

ALL other pipe barrels are way too thin.

ARES looks interesting. Nice Find!

I only recommend this kit for skirmishing.

Only major pain is the mag falling off, but the insert takes care of that.

I plan on doing a thread of my PR soon with all the mods.

I took Jon's pic to mean they're making two weapons, the super mg and the PR, not one out of the other. :)

Found a G&P kit from Hong Kong and went ahead and ordered it. Does anyone know where I can source real SPAS12 parts in the US? I need the cage and grip as I've been unable to find both.

The PX rules and regs says:
Quote:
8. All Sales Topics are deleted automatically after 30
days of inactivity. This is a setting of the Dboard.

So when there's more stock there'll be a new thread offering spas cages, so keep a look in there.
