Where did you source the pump slide grip? I have a real cage and would like to get a real grip too.

Both SPAS-12 parts came together as a set and are both OEM. Got them from a board member here. Not sure if they still have any or would sell as separate parts. I'll let them chime in if they have more.

No work on it since the photo was taken, waiting on parts still.

Progress Update: Matt's parts came in, so I snapped a shot of my naked PR. I'll update the blog tonight with more photos and details. I love the shrouds Matt makes. Oh man are they superb! Photo of those later in the blog update.

I actually think the Pulse Rifle looks pretty cool even without the shrouds on. Obviously I have put shrouds on mine but there is something about the way it looks even without them that I really like.

Thanks everyone. I get all my inspiration from you guys! So, yesterday I did some work on cutting/drilling the SPAS cage to fit parts to it, and also did some finer trim/fit work on the shrouds. They still need some minor adjustment, but it's looking cool:



Going to cut the pump grip next, at this point, it's starting to look "missing" in photos.

That's looking great. building a hero my self cut price using a tm spas cage with the maruzen m870 have you an idea how your going to power the shot gun? external rig or have you figured out how to mount a gas tank in the body?

wildeone: I only wanted the Maruzen for the shell racking function. I never intended to fire it (or the Thompson for that matter). So...I disconnected all the stuff at the back of the receiver. Good luck getting your Maruzen M870 into a TM SPAS cage. See below for my adventure with the real steel cage!

I'm almost ready to post pics of the M870 inside the SPAS-12 cage. It's in there, just have to cut the barrel to length and the shell ejection port in the SPAS cage. Boy was it a lot of work to get the M870 in there. Without a doubt the most challenging part of the build.

As a side note, it was absolutely NOT possible to get the Maruzen M870 I have into the real SPAS-12 cage without cutting into the side of the M870 receiver. I took measurements over and over again (because some people here said they were able to slide it in without any modifications) and I can tell you that mine wouldn't fit. The width of the M870 receiver was 1/16" smaller than the inside width of the SPAS cage, BUT with the grooves that guide the pump grip on the inside, there's NO way it could fit in mine (they eat up about 1/8" of the inside width.

Is it possible that the SPAS parts have some variance on width such that some can actually slide over the Maruzen? Anyway, it turned out fantastic after a LONG period of test fitting.

I had the exact same thing when I tired to install my Tanaka M870 into my Spas-12 hand guard . There simply isn't enough room at all for it to just slide in there.

It took me hours to get it just right and lined up properly. You can add all the electronic sound effects you want, but there is nothing as sweet as that cha-chunk sound you get...

My wife almost made me sleep on the couch because I couldn't stop doing it. =)

hi you got any pics of the tanaka in the cage as i might go down that root.

I done two PR with real S.P.A.S cage and two Maruzen M870 shotguns and you do not need to cut the Plastic body of the M870 to fit into the cage. Yes is a great fit the cage bends a bit and then it slides in ok.

Please go to airsoft section on my Autocad drawings on the Maruzen M870, S.P.A.S cage, grip, on were to cut.

My PR works with the M870, Airsoft M1A1 works and also counter works. All the power sources like battery and gas tank are inside the shroud and is great.

I hate it when people just cut up a working M870, S.P.A.S cage, M1A1, G&P kit that wrong.


I have done full scale detail drawings on making a fully working PR. I spent two years on measuring and alot of money getting it right.

The Best PR is not mine but Friendly Skies as I learn't from my mistakes on the first PR and got his right. I will have to steal the parts back from him one day.

I would imagine it would look identical to Quartz's M870 inside. It wasn't that difficult. The tough part was the alignment for the pump racking action.

But yes I had to make the notch in the side. It was NOT possible for me to slide it in without making the notch. Not possible in any way at all. I would have had to use a sledge hammer to get it in there.

The dremel made it nice and quick. Dremel'd off the notch and slides in smooth as silk.

While I highly respect your work, diagrams, and opinion. I can tell you without any hesitation, that the SPAS cage and M870 I used could not be assembled without the cut.

However, if you are saying that it can somehow be forced inside, and that the steel SPAS cage will bow (bend slightly outward) to accomodate the width of the Maruzen, then that might be a possibility. I personally would not want my SPAS cage to be warped.
