Quick question for the group leaders on this.
This will be a big family event for me this year and several are interested in participating in the parade.
Among them is my son (age 5). I would like to confirm if he will be allowed to march with my wife and I (in the rear of the group, of course).

What are the rules regarding this?
-Does the D*Con itself have rules regarding children in the parade?
-If not, would our group have an issue with them walking, even in the rear?

My biggest advice is force hydrate the day before and the morning of the parade. If you are not acclimated to hot and humid its a drag.

IIRC your family is kitted up with uniforms and equipment? If so, there is no objection to them marching in the ranks, so long as they are comfortable marching in the ranks. Your son, being 5 years old, may find it difficult to keep up with everyone, so in the back with the "out-of-ranks" or "non-canons", would be ideal for his age. As he gets older, I'm sure he'll be good to go in the ranks.

As for D*C regulations concerning children, there is nothing I can see in the convention, and the parade page is rather blank. Best to contact them personally. dc_parade(at)dragoncon.org

There shouldn't be any issue. He'll have a BLAST!!

Rex and Fellow Marines,

I'm planning to attend DragonCon this year and would love to meet up with you guys. As far as the various Aliens/USCM events go that week, do you have any dates and times for what's going on - ex., the Marine Meal; the parade - and where? If I can make it, I would love to be a part.

I would be coming as an "artificial person" in a Bishop-style flight suit. I am also in the process of acquiring more equipment to bring (pulse rifle and motion tracker).

Looking forward to it as well as hearing from you.

Look forward to meeting you. The parade will be Saturday morning. We usually meet at the Hilton lobby in the morning. I am sure more details will be posted closer to Dragoncon.

After doing some digging at roughly 6 locations, I am opting for Pitty Pat's Porch.

Every place I tired was looking at roughly $60-70 per head minimum, most buffet style and lots of extras.

I am going to confirm with PPP later this month, put down the deposit etc etc.


We will also have a fan table.

In general Saturday is the big day for the big 3 events. Fan table is of course always open.

In addition to the parade and meal (and as Gman already said, each has their own thread, so check there for hard #s), there is also usually a colony sweep. I believe that is usually around 1 or 2pm so as to give the Aliens a chance to recover from the parade (its hot in those suits!).

Things are looking good and I might be able to make it. If I can get the time off from work, I would like to help with the parade and fan table in whatever way I can. Count me in for the meal, too.

Afraid color guard duty isn't a regular costume kind of thing. A 'service C' uniform is required. Looking legit and having a "dress" military look to the color guard is a major reason the event sticks us in the front bearing the flags for the entire event.

What size are you? I don't think I can do it myself because I have to wrangle and guide my family during the parade, but I have the uniform and may be willing to lend it out.

I have an XL shirt and 7-5/8 hat if anyone who wants to be color guard and needs to borrow. You'd need your own dark green pants!

Thanks for clarifying. I'll plan on marching with everyone else. I'm also trying to think of a way to get into character during the parade. Sean Maio suggested drinking milk.

Thanks for the offer. That's very kind of you. My sizes in dress shirts nowadays are at least a 2X.

I'll just plan on wearing my Bishop costume in the parade. Also, if you or any of the other folks coming will need a ride to the convention center each day, let me know.
