Post subject:  OFFICIAL FAN TABLE Thread 2015 LOCKED.

I've changed this thread to be Fan Table specific. Anything regarding the operation and appearance of such. This to include displays, props, and F/X. Feel free to contribute ideas that can help improve it. Remember, this is OUR fan table. So everyone has a say. Paul M. and Mike (Hunterkiller) are the primary Fan Table custodians.

The AL will present a more serious and professional image. This greatly improves recruitment and unit pride. Trust me, when you see it, you'll feel it.

We are now in possession of Storage box w/props, displays, and table banner. It looks great!
(***Soon we will obtain a retractable display standee, small recruitment placards, and other displays; currently in planning and proposal)

Thanks! That would be awesome. It might even be safe at the table. Boxes have been left there in the past with no incident.

Jess, we have to make sure the locks are large enough to fit. Also, they have combo number wheels on bottom. Thanks sweetie!

Is that a plano trunk? If so, the factory is literally an hour from my house and their factory shop sells the items really cheap. So I could even purchase it and bring it down with me.

Mike, YES! I believe so. If you can do that, that would be awesome! If you need me to Paypal you, just let me know. If not, please let everyone know on this thread so we can collect some donations to offset the cost.
THANKS AGAIN!

If you can send me specifications of the locks, that would be ideal.

I don't have exact brands, details or model numbers. Just anything that is similar to the pics. And big enough to fit the holes on the box. I'm sure if you get something midsized or bigger, it would work.

I think one large lock for the center should be enough

Mike, that should work just fine. How much?

We'll need 2 locks for that one. Once you get it, please contact Jess and give some guidance on what lock size should fit the holes. Thanks again!

As long as it is not over 100 USC, ill cover it since I missed out on the banner donation.

Mike, the ones I looked at on e-Bay are $50 shipping included. If you have to spend more than that, DON'T do it! Confirm prices that are in that range, otherwise I can just place the order. Thanks again.

New requests for Fan Table items.

Marines, we will have an awesome table display this year. From what I've heard, this will be a vast improvement from past years. Gone is the day of a folding table with a few flyers, business cards and various props strewn about. We have an awesome backdrop, banner, and 'big' surprise. We are working to further the table image and presentation.

I request some of you bring some spare items we still need.

Surge protector
Extension cord (at least 50ft)
Bicycle lock cable

PLEASE! This will greatly assist us with our table. If you were unable to make any donations to past projects, you can bring any of those items listed you might have lying around your garage. More than one extension cord would be great, as we won't know for sure the location of our table and nearby power outlets.

ONE MONTH TO GO! Are we excited yet?

Thanks again, Marines. I salute you.

In fact you might have enough extension cords to run all the way from Columbus to Atlanta, IIRC... :D

IMPORTANT: A call to anyone who is driving to the con. We need a jug of Fog Machine fluid. Not the easiest thing to fly down with in luggage. PLEASE, anyone who can just stop by a party supply store and get it, that would be great. We plan to have smoke effects coming from our fan table backdrop. If money is an issue, I WILL REIMBURSE YOU. Cost is about $20-$30.(maybe cheaper depending on brand)
Thanks.

I can drag some fog fluid with me. I won't get there till Friday afternoon though.

Are we sure we can use the fog machine? Will it not set off alarms? Thought this is why we cannot use it at the Space Center. Are we sure we are going to have power again?

Thanks!

Greg

I don't see anything in the fan table rules that specifically prohibit it unless it is counted as a fire hazard.

Even ignoring the convention rules, the hotel will not want any chances taken.

Some would say that triggering the fire alarm, causing an evacuation on Thursday which then causes hesitation when there is an actual fire on Friday is a fire hazard. And having smoke in the air at all makes a real fire harder for people to detect visually.

Additionally, most smoke machines ARE fire hazards - they work by passing oil over a very hot wire which is sometimes exposed (like the evil one at NSC) such that any contact with fabric or paper will cause a fire.

Even if there isn't a fire, and it's a crummy "misting" type machine, the fluid is nasty stuff which damages carpets and could cause a slip hazard.

Also, plugging into any convenient outlet (especially using long extension cords) will be frowned upon or completely disallowed unless we are explicitly granted permission.

Apart from what Abe mentioned depending on the type of Fire detector they use the fog alone may cause a (false) alarm.

A nice mail to the D*Con team might solve this.

Absolutely! If we (already have?) talked to the organisers about specifics then I'd imagine we'd get some latitude (or at least find out exactly what will not cause hassle for them with the hotel).
