The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I agree with the own room idea. The 2011 meal was unfortunately tarnished by us all sitting all over the place and the music being so fecking loud, with the roar of the crowd trying to talk over it, you could barely hear someone 2 seats away.

Aye, quiet room for noisy Marines!

Tony - Is there a specific cut-off date for this?
Lauren's friends are swithering over whether they can join us - She's gonna push for an answer by the end of the month. That alright?
( Also, since I think their decision might be influenced by price... Do you know if it's a set menu option we'd be going for, and roughly how much it is? )

Thanks.

Once we have a restaurant we want to book (we're still checking into alternatives as numbers are still low for Hard Rock) we'll give a cut off.
We will however give some leeway in case there is some growth closer to the date.

If you don't start calling soon, everything will be looooooong gone. Restaurants in Atlanta start booking for DragonCon parties 6 months in advance, and with a limited number of restaurants that can handle large groups, and more and more fan groups doing dinners, these places are booking up while we sit here making lists.

What's the minimum for Hard Rock?

If I recall we're needing 50 minimum for Hard Rock.
We're not waiting though, we're checking other venues with these numbers...it's all in the works.

Damn.

To be honest, though, it wouldn't bother me if the meal WERE on a different night...
Is there any specific reason, apart from "Because tradition", that it CAN'T be on, say, Sunday night instead?
( I'm just asking, no dramas please, just an answer if there is one! )

I think the Saturday came about as a logical day of the week. Friday is no good because there's an early rise for the parade on Saturday. I'm not opposed to Sunday, but I always saw Saturday as the day everyone did their "Marine" related things as not everyone is 100% Marine exclusive.

If it's gotta be changed, then it's gotta be changed.

I meant more for future years / future reference... So I know what level of sarcasm and / or hostility to expect in response should I ever suggest that the meal take place on another night in case it makes it easier to get a place.

with a group this big, your never going to please everyone! Throw an event the size of Dcon into the mix and its pretty much guaranteed that someones going to miss out whatever day its on!

the meal has always been on Saturday, i dont see any point in changing days
