Friday 21st November - Monday 24th November 2014
Butlins Minehead, North Somerset.
http://www.bigweekends.com/splash-pages ... s2014.aspx

Keep it under your pork-pie, but we're trying for another get-away...

The legendary Ska band "Madness" are playing two gigs and selecting other entertainments at an over-18s weekend at Butlins at Minehead. All of the normal adult-suitable attractions will be operating (weather permitting), including the indoor water-park, outdoor fairground, paintball/laser tag and bowling.

Although this is not a Aliens-costuming drop, there is rumours of a possible fancy dress competition. I will follow up on these rumours. Personally, I plan to invite Abe to sleep in the boot of the car, and will also attempt a ska-ish outfit (even if it's pastel... ;)) for myself.

Chalet 1 - 1 double bed and 4 single beds - Headline cost pp including breakfast and dinner: £169 (inc £34pp deposit required ASAP) - BOOKED

We've been to the last 3 Alternative Music weekends and really enjoy it there, we'd never been to Butlins before and thought we'd hate it.

Food is pretty good, at both rates.

You get quite a few people there just for Hen/Stag parties and the like, often in fancy dress.

Some nice pubs in town, including a Wetherspoons, so it can be worth popping out for a few cheaper drinks.

Thanks for the info Martin.

Mandy: But what fine blokes they are!

Matt: They are playing a gig on Friday night and another on Saturday, so you would likely miss one. But indeed; I'll talk to you at the weekend.

Well, I don't mean to rush, but the booking website is showing very few rooms left (7 of the type I've booked, 1 of the rooms for four and similar numbers of other room types).

Booking link is HERE - let me know if you book something yourself.

Otherwise, let me know ASAP when you're sure and then I will book another room.

Any more interest? It's getting to the point where I have to book - and another 5 person chalet would be a much better deal then a 3 person one.

At this point, even sharing between four, I can't get better than £220 pp. It is rapidly selling out.

(and, they won't let me make two bookings for the same music weekend - if another chalet is needed, someone else will need to book)

Gareth, have a search online, there is usually discount codes, often given to regular customers. We've used them in the past when booking.
If there are facebook pages for it, sometimes they are on there too.

Oh and you sometimes get better deals calling them to book as opposed to booking online.

Cheers Martin. I did phone up and it was slightly better than what I got online. However, they said that each payment card name can only make one booking so I was unable to complete the purchase.

For the online prices I was using JULY20 which did take £20 off but the phone quote was still cheaper.

However, at this point, we are looking for people to jump in and book while the price is going up all the time.

At this time, there is still ONE 3-person room remaining... when that goes, the price goes up again.

Cool, looks like you had it all in hand anyway.

Of course the other option is a self catering apartment, which works out a lot cheaper, if people are willing to cook or you eat out.
IMO Food at butlins is good, you can eat as much as you want, but pretty expensive for 2 meals a day.
We did that last year and enjoyed it, taking our own food and a load of booze with us.
Big supermarket is only round the corner from Butlins site too.

There is still a 3 person "suite" (no kitchen) for £170 pp.

With the food option, that works out to be about £215 pp.

Yup! One chalet paid in full, so I need to think about requesting money from people (including the "deposit" - I dunno if I collected it from anyone?)

What an incredible weekend!

Of course, many drinks were had. Hangovers were relieved with greasy breakfast and trips to the pool. The Madness gigs were incredible. And the atmosphere was perfect - no trouble or nastiness despite all the pissed up old rude boys and skinheads..

There were loads of costumes there, and I had a load of fun in costume, but felt bad for Abe sitting at home... ;)

A wonderful family holiday. :D

We have booked again for 20-23rd November 2015. At this time, all the places in the chalet I booked are taken, but more can be booked. I will put up a proper post and interest list soon.
