Post subject:  DROP: Charity Games Convention Newport - 20th Sept 2014

We are running a Charity Games Convention in Newport, Gwent on the 20th September 2014 and we would really appreciate a drop.

The profits from the event will be going to Barnardos Young Carers, a group of kids that really need help.

Its quite a large event, we have the whole of the Newport Centre a facility in the Town Center.

The website is http://www.dragondaze.com

chris_548 said to get on touch, that you would be able to help us.

Simon

The whole day is based on getting people to play more social based games, there will be loads of games people can play and companies promoting their games, we will have guests from TV and Film, We will also have other Groups there such as the Storm Troopers, Roman Soldiers, and Daleks and K9.

Why are we supporting the Barnardos Young Carers?

Young carers are children who help look after a member of the family who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems, or is misusing drugs or alcohol.

Their day to day responsibilities often include:

cooking
cleaning
shopping
providing nursing and personal care
giving emotional support.

With so many adult responsibilities, young carers often miss out on opportunities that other children have to play and learn. Many struggle educationally and are often bullied for being ‘different’. They can become isolated, with no relief from the pressures at home, and no chance to enjoy a normal childhood. They are often afraid to ask for help as they fear letting the family down or being taken into care.

Brilliant cause!

Ill see if we can get something organised for this. What are you after in particilar? A display? Something more interactive?
At past events we have staged bug hunts and run Nerf ranges/kids boot camps, as well as having a large weapon and prop display.

Basically we are looking for Attendee interaction more than anything, meet and greet.

We have a Badge/pass to get into the rooms as the gym and swimming pool is still open for the event so is it possible to have door guards that check passes or is that asking too much.

It would turn having to show your Badge/Pass into something fun.

We can do that. :)

If you contact Pug50 via pm with your wants and needs he is probably best suited to say what we can and can't do.

Hi Simon.

All sounds good to me, and plenty of notice. We can start working out numbers of our people who can attend.

If you have space, we could put on a prop display table. If you were able to supply collection tins then we can put them on the table, or do suggested donates for photos with any Xenos we can round up (or photos with Marines...).

Anyway, get in touch when you can or if you have any questions about what we can do.

I can find some space for you, thats not a problem.

We are trying to sort out some kind of buffet for the people who help us out on the day too if we can.

Will it just be Marines or will you have monsters too?

I can't guarantee Xenos: it depends on people's availability - but I'd guess we'd have one or two Aliens.

I'd also recommend you get in touch with UK Predators - a separate group who specialise in Predators (from the Predator/AvP films) - hook up with them on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/the.uk.preds

I've sent the Predators a message over FB so see what Happens there.

So far we have Confirmed, The 501st UK Garrison of Storm Troopers, The Ermine Street Guard.

We are also talking to the producers of Dr Who to see if they can get us a few baddies there, but looks like the Daleks for Charity will be sending a few Daleks.

Some of the Cast and Crew from the Minister of Chance may be there too along with 10 cast and Crew from Dr Who with K9, but a lot of that has to be confirmed so far.

I'm trying to see if I can get one of the green screen photographers to come with their setup for the day so that we can offer people the full photo package, make it look like they are on the set of a film.

How many Marines are attending as we need to look at the possibility of some lunch for you if we can.

Thanks Simon for thinking of Lunch. We're a bit bad at getting attendance worked out so far in advance, but we should really start a list.

Who's up for a charity event in South Wales?
