Greetings all,

As you all have noticed over the past year or so, the forum has been having a lot of bugs. (and not the kind we like) Unfortunately, the forum software is well over 12 years old and well out of date. This is causing the forum to not work as smoothly as it should. From people not getting registration emails, to security warnings, and even members getting their accounts hacked by spam bots. With all the new interest in the Alien universe and the forum in its current shape, we decided it is in a bad need of an upgrade.

The plan is to have a new forum, which is compliant with the https:// requirements for servers these days, which has many of the new features and better file hosting and better experience. Most likely it will remain a phpbb forum, but that could change depending on features we want to use. We will still have the costume/ prop sections, PX sections, and regional club subforums. We might even be able to add more clubs under the Aliens Legacy umbrella.

So what does this mean for this forum? Well right now, nothing. This forum will stay active until the new one is up and running. Once the new forum is up, this forum will be archived. We have decided not to shut it down, simply because there is too much information on Alien related costumes and props here. The forum will still be accessible in an archive form, much like the current archives section here. The PX will remain open for posts until all run of items are settled, then it will be moved over to the new forum. There will be a link to the forum on the new forum, so if you have some old thread you want to access, you will be able to.

I would like to also recognize Pug50 and Matroon, both who this forum owes a great deal of gratitude to. The forum was originally programed by Pug50 and hosted by Matroon for many years, without asking for compensation. Thank you again gentlemen for you contributions to the Alien fandom and Aliens Legacy.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please reach out.

Mike

Awww yiss!
I really hope this is going to revive this forum! Whenever I go online, this is one of the first places I visit. The Facebook groups are nice, but only for news and showoff threads, it's annoying if you want to find a tidbit of info someone posted there. This forum is the base of Aliens knowledge for me.
Unfortunately, the forum has been almost dead for quite a while, possibly because registration has been problematic for a whil. I hope the new forum will change that.
Cheers!
Roman

The California 31'st Monarchs have just finished celebrating our 10th anniversary by hosting our very first event booth at Wonder Con 2025 in Anaheim. I had my laptop set up to demonstrate the layout of this forum to new potential recruits. Two in particular completed the first step of the registration process on Sunday, but both had encountered the email confirmation snag. Do you have any solutions for this problem. Our group has a great chance at hosting a booth at San Diego Comic Con in July. That is a VERY large event, and can present much opportunity for breathing new life into this forum, as well as expanding our group here in California.

Greetings,

the new forum beta is online. If you would like to make an account, please feel free to and report any bugs to me. I promise I will do something about that hideous default board style.

I use an unsecured route via Google chrome to access it, but when I opened it, it looks incomplete and VERY crude. Somewhat illegitimate upon appearance. It has no graphics like the old one has. Is everyone sure this new forum will be relevant and attractive to newer younger members? At my group's recent gathering, we discussed the future of recruiting future members, and many others in the group expressed a shared opinion that the era of forums has come and gone some time ago, and that younger and future potential members are discouraged and turned off from being bound to logging in and out of forums. I personally prefer having all members of the 31'st Monarchs synced to an international database of some sort, the service numbers list, as a means of legitimacy.

I registered and had a look.
Nothing much there yet, but it feels sleeker than the current forum.
Looking forward to a more refined theme. 8)

I‘d wager that is because it‘s a default theme without any logos and polish, which will most likely be the next step. There also aren‘t any migrated threads, so I guess the admins have quite some work left.

While this is somewhat true, it is MUCH easier to use a forum as a knowledge base, e.g. for props. Facebook may be a better „recruiting tool“, but I hate navigating through older posts to find a build thread. So I prefer a new forum to an all-Facebook page or something.

Cheers!

There is still a lot of work to be done, as this is just a beta. A lot of the customization of this forum, cannot be ported over, as it was made 15+ years ago, and I don't have access to the code for this style. I am working on the new forum, but right now, the looks of it are low on my priorities, as registration emails are having issues and some people are getting errors depending on their internet provider. Many of the custom icons, or banners, are property of Pug50s custom code for this forum, so I will not be able to port them over.

As for Facebook, while it is great for some networking, finding knowledge and threads in Facebook groups is terrible, due to the stupid non linear timeline algorithm.

The plan is to have this board archived once the new forum is up and running smoothly

I looked into this, and nothing is showing on the error log. My buddy who is hosting the forum is looking into this error
