Can someone please tell me if Alien 5 is on the roll?

Or is all these rumours just fake?
I´ve heard stories about Sigourney saying that
Alien Resurrection, was the final movie she
would be starring in.

I´ve also read that Ridley Scott and James Cameron
was planning 2 do the fifth and final attempt to bring
Aliens to our home again. But that there was some
dissagreement between them both etc etc.

After getting all this different rumours, is some of them
really true? Could it be that Alien 5 is under production,
or is it beeing written?

The "Ridley and Cameron collaboration" was something both directors considered a while back - But the deal was that if an AvP movie happened, A5 wouldn't. Not in that form anyway.

As for your final two comments - I agree that the Newborn was rubbish... But I've said it before and stand by it:

Alien movies do not NEED Ripley.
They're about the Aliens. And for someone to say that there can only be 5 or 6 stories told about the Aliens is like saying that there can only be 5 or 6 stories told about the Vietnam War.

In fact Sigourney is getting a little old to be in these films IMHO.

They have an opportunity to re-ignite and reinvigorate the franchise with a younger star. It doesn't have to be a women, but . . .

May I suggest Jill Wagner. She's young, attractive, tough, and she loves guns.

Alien 5 will probably never happen, at least not with Weaver and Cameron, they may however be working together on Cameron's next film, Avatar. She is rumoured to play Grace, a mentor to the main character Jake, a role that could see her kicking some ass (www.planetpandora.com).
Also, ive always thought Aliens could make a great tv series: Colonial Marines. With shows like 24 and Battlestar Galactica they prove adult action can be both thoroughly heart pounding and visually stunning. It would be expensive to make a Colonial Marines tv series, especially with Aliens, but I think if you went back to making it tense, scary and character driven it could work. Id watch it, even if it was a 10 part mini series like Band of Brothers.

Oooh, a CM mini-series? Now I'd buy into that all right!

Regardless of the actress chosen for the role, they can definitely revitalize the franchise by leaving Ripley to a well earned rest and having as main action character: a grown-up Newt!

Of course, it does mean magically vanishing films 3 and 4, but who is going to regret that, mmh?

Plus that means we can still SEE Ripley/Sigourney. Just that she won't be the center of the action.

They already did.

It was called Space: Above and Beyond.

Lasted one season.

Right now I don't think the general viewing public is into "war" shows anymore; whether it is about Vietnam (Tour of Duty, China Beach), the war in Afghanistan (Over There), or even fighting aliens.

That combine with the hottest shows these days being about real subjects (anti-terrorism, doctors, forensic sciences, cops, and even *gasp*, "reality" television)- I don't think the mass audience would tune in for grunts fighting aliens.

Don't get wrong though- (if it was done right) it would make me happy.

I agree Sigorney is way too old for another Alien flick. They really pushed it in Ressurection. I think they need to get off the whole female fighting aliens thing now. Because anyone they choose will always be compared to her and she is a tough act to follow IMO.
