The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

hi everyone! I'm looking to buy a helmet kit for myself and just wanted to know what you guys thought is the best way to go about purchasing one. i live in the UK and have checked ebay and a few other sites and have come across a few but thought i would ask your opinions first, before i make the plunge and buy one. I'm kinda leaning toward this one at frontier models right now. www.frontiermodels.co.uk/..._Issue.htm

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Resin helmet?
Get that to fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffelsewhere.

Spat's your man for a REAL steel helmet, with resin camera and styrene detailing.

The best part is if you drop it, it won't shatter into a million pieces.
OK, it might break your foot...

Happy to have been of service :)

BTW, I HAVE dropped my Spat helmet.
No chinstrap, so when I got jumped upon by an excitable teenage girl at Fresher's Week, the old bucket plummeted groundwards.
The only damage, after it landed and bounced before rolling to a stop, was the thin part of the hinge that holds the ear defender on - It broke cleanly.
Easily repaired, and now stronger than ever before.

Yay.

Hey Scapegoat,

Could I trouble you for techniques on how you fixed the ear defender piece? My spat helmet has suffered a similar fate, and though I've come up with several ideas to fixing it, I'd like to hear any possible options. Two heads better then one and all that :)

Thanks for your time.

Craig

Sure!
I used two short pieces of plastic tubing to replace the outer sections of the hinge, fixing them into place with 2-part epoxy resin "JB Weld".
I also replaced the hinge pin with a far stronger one than the original - Coathanger wire does a great job.
Lastly, I made a chinstrap by simply looping a piece of webbing through the gubbins in the top of the helmet ( Since one of the original strap loops was removed to place the ear defender ) and ran some rubber bands from the ear defented to the chinstrap to keep it tight against my ear.
